Aw, what's wrong Chumly,
Are you wanting to whip off a few n*gger jokes, and frustrated because you prolly would get called on it?
Tell ya what - just go on and pm them to me. That way, you kill two birds - you get to untether all that wit you're bustin' with, and you get to insult a real live negro person.

I'm here for ya, buddy.
There are virtually no n*ggers where I live, never have been; at least none by the typical America-land classification. I don't recall one n*gger joke in my lifetime. Same with Mexicans.

Asian, East Indian and Natives sure!

but there are always those members of society who need the little inhibitions imposed on us by social more - like n*gger jokes being taboo. Because they haven't either the decency or common sense or both to maintain the decorum necessary for people to function together.

Absolutely, that is a problem.

THINKING......the correct solution is not to criminalize humour, but rather it is to teach civility to the ignorant.

There isn't any 'law' per se, against racial humor. So your characterization is hyperbole. There is only harsh social sanction - more pointedly so nowadays, where every word can be instantly reproduced and played en masse via youtube.
Some bemoan this as 'mind pc', but I for one am glad there are fewer seamy corners where bigots can amuse themselves with schoolboy pokes at the 'other' race du jour.

I think that it all has to do with motivation. Often, groups tell jokes about each other. It is a way of making light of something which is often anxiety producing. The kinds of things that one says about others in their group is often peculiar to a particular aspect of the group which is common to the group.

There is nothing wrong about a joke about a group per se. The problem is when someone is using that joke to cover over a latent hostility towards a particular group.

Years ago, I was good friends with a couple of black women who worked with me. We would often hang out together on the weekends. We were driving, and one of the women spotted a grungy looking black man leaning against a light pole, obviously drunk. The one woman turns to the other, and says, "Hey, there's your father!"

I was floored. I would never dream of saying anything like that about my father. I certainly would not have made that remark to the black woman. The two women were doubled up with laughter. I just kept my mouth shut, and said nothing.

Yeah, Phoenix. It matters whether people intend to hurt with their words.

I'm not sure what your point was in sharing those two black women's joke. If they knew each other, why would that shock you?

Snood- There were a number of points. One, was that even though they were my friends, I could never have made that same remark to them. There are some things that one says within one's own group, about one's own group, that you just cannot say to someone outside the group. It would have been interesting to see their reaction, had I laughed along with them. I did not think that it would have been appropriate for me to laugh, even though the two of them thought the whole idea was hysterical.

It shocked me because the concept of equating one's father with a drunken bum was so far out of my realm of experience, that it was shocking to me, that those words were even uttered. (I didn't mention it originally, but I was in my mid 20's when this happened. I think that I would not be shocked if it happened today.)

I'll make the same kind of joke with my friends, but nothing to do with race. See some kind of wackjob, and say "hey, what's your uncle doing here?"

Then we belly laugh for HOURS.

My God then u should come to India
If WHITE Vs BLACK is what you talk about, you should come to India.

The caste system has created several ethnic groups. Each cracks jokes on others and vice versa.
