So then. What's in your attic?

The weather was nice so an improptu party broke out in my neighborhood tonight. Mo and I wandered down.

Now I'm too old to be a hipster but most of my decades younger neighbors are completely square. Seriously square; L7. Even compared to old me they are square. And I'm pretty square.

Mo had on a T-shirt from his music school - Rock school - and squarish surgeon dad questioned him about his lessons. Turns out surgeon guy used to play in a rock band. A metal band, no less. He was digging on revealing this aspect of his life. All his old equipment is "in the attic". And "maybe he should bring it down...".

Lovely!

In my attic (I don't really have one) you would find all my old film based cameras and darkroom equipment. I still do some photography but all that stuff represents a part of my life that I don't want to get rid of even though I don't really use it anymore. Compared to now, I was a scientist then!

Knock down the cobwebs and tell me what's in YOUR attic!

Insulation...the only access is through a trap door in the ceiling of a small bedroom closet, so all my hoarded-for-sentimental-reasons crap is spread all over the house...sigh

I don't have an attic. I don't even have a home. I'm homeless. (and it feels wonderful).

Literal Reply: I don't have an attic. This house had an attic conversion done in 1990. It's a master suite now. So I guess you could say my bed, my clothes, my favorite books and my bathroom (with whirlpool tub) are in my attic.

Symbolic Reply: I still have my drafting table and T-square from my early days as a graphic artist in the B.C. era (before computers.) It was such a defining object back then. It reminds me of where I started. (It took me 10 years to throw away the Rapidograph set, though. It had been a special gift from my mentor.)

Ours, too. I have a ladder built into the wall. What a pain!

There's lots of dust and cobwebs in my attic.
Literally and figuratively.

We have no attic, and no basement for that matter.

How could I forget about our "other" attic?

From my Back to School thread:

"dragged 8+ garbage bags full of squirrel nests out of the attic"

I suspect we still have a bat.

The attic in the house in Connecticut, where I lived before leaving my then husband is filled with old LP's, 45's, old furniture, patio furniture, photos and luggage--luggage in every sense of the word.

When I left, five years ago, I left almost everything behind, I was so anxious to get out of there. I left sterling silver, fine linens, antiquies (I qualify now, so why should I bring more antiques with me?). In otherwords, I left a whole lot of expensive stuff----but I came to where the very best is to be found. It was the best decision I ever made.

Note: I forgot to bring my wine opener and a good cheese grater. That was a mistake. The rest is history.

our attic is only a crawlspace - so no problem .
our house has a full basement and that's "a bit of a rat's nest" !
one half is taken up by laundry room and small workshop ... the other half :
books , books and more books , a largish collection of stamps , letters and postcards , tax and other records ... ... Shocked - i look at it about twice a week and promise to take a clenup under "urgent consideration" Laughing Rolling Eyes
see ya next year !

Note: Like CJ, our house has no attic and no basement. It requires keeping posessions at a reasonable level----exept for books and shoes, of course.
