I get this annoying recording telling me that I have important information I must respond to. I get this every day and on weekends too.
I am pretty sure it's a collection agency because I overstayed the pay parking some time ago.
I believe it's illegal for them to annoyingly / repetitively contact me in this fashion but I am not sure how best to go about stopping it.
I doubt it's a collection, and I can't think of any way to stop it because you don't know who it is.
Here's what I get, every week or two. "There is no problem with your account at this time, but it is important that you call . . . ." I followed up on this at one time, and since I was clearly asking information about them, instead of sounding thouroughly cowed, they hung up on me.
I'm not sure what the hustle is, but it's in there somewhere.
I get one from Wall-mart / Macy's all the time that bugs me too, so maybe you're right. In any case I contacted "Canada's Office of Consumer Affairs (OCA)"

Were you able to get the number they are calling from? Or was it blocked?
My first instinct is that it is one of those scams by phone.
To clarify:
- the one from Wall-mart / Macy's is an advertisement for upcoming sales
- the one telling me that I have important information I must respond to rambles on for quite some time and then provides a phone number to call
My answering machine always screens my calls, but these recordings go on for quite some time and do so regularly, so it's rather an annoyance.

We've had this one, too.
Also, something from Bloomingdale's. Huh? We don't even have them in Canada, do we?
Oh right I forgot, there was Bloomingdale's mentioned too, and I am not aware of any here in BC.
