Thanks guys. I've been wimping out of trying the waves the past few nights, my hair's misbehaving at the moment. No matter what I do...

Okay. I have a hollywood style birthday party coming up in a couple of weeks. With the whole trip to Amsterdam on top of that I don't really want to be forking out for a professional hair stylist.

I'd like to create a wavy style for my hair, sort of like these http://www.thehairstyler.com/images/salon/hairstyle_WavyLong2r.jpg

My hair is generally straight and rebellious when it comes to styling. What can I do??? Something fairly fool proof because my hair seriously hates being styled, rollers just cling to it and then I get annoyed and just end up frizzing it all up..

You need a curling iron.

After the curls have cooled, just run your fingers through them. Do not brush.

Is there nothing simpler? I really can't be arsed sitting there curling my hair. I'd prefer to just whack something in there, twirl it up into something and leave it/blow dry it.

I'm not getting my mum to do it either, she wouldn't pay for a hairdresser for my prom and said she'd do it herself.. I ended up going in a dress three times too big for me and with a bent fringe. Sad

Also with a curling iron I get curls, not waves. And I need something softer as I have some shortish layers in my hair. Letting the curls drop a bit just makes my hair look lank.

Does your hair have any natural wave to it at all?

Here is my suggestion coming from someone with straight hair. My hair will not hold curl long unless there is absolutely no humidity in the air. If I am looking to get waves then I do extenstions...

edit: Toni Brattin has extensions that are great through HSN...not too terribly expensive

she has all different lengths, different colors, different styles...I went on a cruise and was out in the NIGHT air and when we were through with the evening and back in our stateroom - my hair looked just as good as when I set out.

I think gold strappy sandals (Nine West)

and a little bag like this would be nice - Carlo Fellini Bag

just to give you an idea...what does the dress look like?

Very little. If I let it dry naturally there's some very subtle wave.... And I mean VERY subtle...and only in some places. Shocked

Hmmm, good idea but I'm not so sure about the extensions...

The dress is about knee length, maybe just above, has a rouched sort of top and is made from a chiffony material... It has a satiny bit at the bottom. Thin straps...

I like those shoes. I have some silver strappy ones, but was wondering if these would go...

How about this bag:

Bag 1

I'm thinking maybe a stole... but not sure whether to go goldy colour, chocolate brown or black...

When I think the weather is good (winter time - low humidity) I use a FAT barrel curling iron like Eva said...using the clips to hold them so the curl sets is a great idea...I spray my hair with hairspray first though (probably not good for it though - but it works. ) then run my fingers through and I get waves. Of course they fall out though...but I look great walking out the door. Hopefully because your hair has some wave to it, it would stay better.

no pain no gain...
wonderful little saying... Razz

Hmm, I'll have to have a play.

Any ideas what colour wrap I should wear? It's basically a light gold/beigey cream dress, I've got matching shoes, hopefully matching bag... so I was thinking a contrasting pashmina might make me look more interesting instead of 'samey'. What do we reckon? Or should I try and match with that aswell and just keep the goldy trend going?

here's my attempt at finger waves. they're there, not quite in a straight line all the way across, but my hair is too unruly for that. one day! one day i'll have perfect fingerwaves,

I have natrually wavy hair with a long layer hair cut. Most of the time I simply wash, let it dry a little then add spray gel and scrunch the ends till curly. Blow dry with head upside down for body. Brush out a little when done and set with hair spray. Takes me all of about 15 minutes from start to finish.

Dag, that looks awesome!

Wow, that is awesome! I just can't seem to get my hair to stay in position. I do it, it looks great for about 5 minutes, then it all goes limp and looks like I haven't washed my hair in months... It's too heavy, curls just get pulled out by the weight....

Mind you, I dried my hair this morning and it just randomly decided to go wavy. Strange, seems to have a mind of it's own..
