Well, the only time I have heard "if the truth be told" is when someone was gossiping and they added their two cents.

Been having some trouble with my pc, and if the truth be told, it's Bill Gates' fault. I wish he would stay out of Iraq.

I used to wonder--particularly when the family dog bolted over the horizon--why sheep were the only erring, straying animals mentioned in the Bible.

Noddy, it's a big mistake to count sheep when one tries to sleep. I tried to post an image, and it didn't work.

One of the announcers on the radio station in Virginia pronounced "err", EAR. "We eared when we said that".
