Egads. How can woman wear them?

First, I see a lot of women wearing them, but notice that most of them cannot walk properly in them.

I am talking about the return of high, high heels.

I think they're nuts to sacrifice comfort for appearances. I mean, I'm not saying they ought to be wearing orthopedic shoes-- I'm just saying there are plenty of smashing looking shoes which are kinder on the body.

I have never gotten that either.

being a woman, wearing high heels has never ever crossed my mind as an option for a style of shoes.

The damage they can do to the body is amazing, and it blows my mind that people will sacrifice that in an attempt to look good to people they dont even know and who dont really matter in their day to day life.

but that is just my opinion..

It does. And I cant say that a woman who knows how to wear them, doesn't make them look sexy

I don't mind and like high heels that aren't excessively high. And I prefer a bit wider heels - not the pencil thin kind. With wider heels you don't have issues with balance and you can walk on them. If you buy the right shoe even high heels are comfortable.

Also with certain style of pants - you need a high heel . The heels I have on now are 2 inches, which for me is perfect and comfortable.

The very high heels are not necessarily uncomfortable. Some of them are quite comfortable and easy to walk in. Others are horrible. If someone wants to wear high heels, and is willing to spend the $$$ there are some tremendously comfortable, supportive ones.

It's a personal choice.

Yesterday I wore a pair of men's lace-up Rockport oxfords. Today I'm wearing silver and glitter faux Birkies. Earlier in the week I wore brown and leopard print mid-height kitten heels. Next week I'll be wearing sky-scrapers a couple of times.

Choice is good.

Exactly, all that discomfort for appearances. Some people have a higher tolerance for pain, and I figure those are the women wearing them. I do believe there are some woman who can wear them and not feel uncomfortable-- but they are the exception.

Alas, footbinding was not self-inflicted.

Two inch heels are reasonable and don't really ever go out of fashion. I'm talking about the monster high, high heels.

Yes, and that's why some of those "all kinds" are foot doctors and back specialists rubbing their hands together and salivating.

In all due respect, you've missed the point. I am talking about women wearing high heels who cannot, I repeat, cannot walk in them. They shuffle their feet, they are rickety at the knees, they do not look comfortable in their gate.

Sure it's a personal choice. There are plenty of bad fashion choices out there, but some of the bad choices don't include bodily injury.

Someone once said (I don't remember who) that the high heel is the western equivalent of the bound foot.

In my younger years, I wore spike heels with long, pointy toes. Believe me, they did not do my feet any good, and today I am paying the price for that bit of feminine frippery.

Once, in around the early seventies, there was a style that had rounded toes, with a high heel. The difference was that the heel was very thick, and therefore gave good support. I had a pair of those, and I could actually run around in them all day, in complete comfort.

I can't understand why that style fell out of favor in a matter of months! Sad

They've chosen to buy the cheap shoes that aren't good to walk in.

It's their issue, not mine or yours.

I guess if you find it really awful, you can just put your hand over your eyes as they wobble past.

I have some like that now, I think. Sounds like a revival of 40's-style shoes, which keep coming back.

I have these:

And I love love love them. Can't believe how comfortable they are.

I do know what you mean about women who are obviously in pain though. I object to painful fashion pretty much across the board.

Louboutins. If you can afford a pair.

One of my colleagues wears them. Insanely expensive, but she trots around like she's wearing sneakers. Sooo comfortable (I tried them on one day <shoegasm>)

Stacey London sure loves 'em.

I like the red soles, too.

That'd be a bit much for my everyday life, but they're purty.

Sozlet said the same thing. ("Pilgrim shoes!")

I like 'em anyway. Look good with black tights and a knee-length skirt.

soz- I love the strap across the instep. That really adds to the support.

Beth- I was once in Mexico (getting rid if the 1st Mr. P Laughing ) and I picked up a pair of pointy toed high heeled shoes that were much more expensive in the US than what I paid for them in Juarez. They too, were unbelievably comfortable, although you would never know, just looking at them.

Since I have been living in Florida, I wear sneakers and sandals exclusively. I find that my feet have widened to the point where I cannot wear some of the pumps that I brought with me from NY.

I'm sure they look great on you, soz. I don't think I could pull off that look myself.

I'll stick to these....
