Who's got a shovel?

What's my first step?

First step?

Buy colorful file folders and extra labels for the folders.

Separate what you have to keep, what you want to keep, what you can get rid of.
Rule of thumb: if you haven't had a need for it in two years, toss it.

I'm going to go with Noddy's suggestion, that way I can mosey over to Staples, shop a little, get those colorful thingies, maybe stop and get a coffee and have a look at the paper, then come home and take a nap.

Yeah.

First step-

Stand in front of your desk with your waist almost touching the edge and your left arm right at the edge of the desk

Step two ,
slightly bend at the waist, extend your left arm out laying it flat on the top of the desk directly at the edge of the desk top

Step three, slightly bend your knees and do a heavy sweeping motion with your left arm remaining flat on the table while walking to your right forcing everything off the table and into a trash can

Step four.
Empty the trash.

Can't be done without a hamster onsite to supervise.

So, I'm here.

Where are the labels and coloured pens?

Torn between option #1 and option #4, I opted, after much trepidition, for option #4. But, I could easily waver back to #1 just like >pop< that.

This is alledgedly a true story: a goverment office was told to discard old records. Fine, said the supervisor, but make copies in case we need them later.

here's what to do... stare at the mess until you are totally overwhelmed and depressed. go get drunk to forget your depression.

First, I did what shewolf said (ONE BIG SWEEPOFF INTO THE TRASH)

i was free!!! Then I threw it all in the trash!!! Ha!

Then, my wife wanted to know where our wedding pictures (the ones which had been on the desk were.

So THAT took awhile to bring everything back up from the trash room.

Now I am going to try my brilliant and caring friend eoe's method.

File Action Toss.

Well if she's gonna sweat the small stuff she'll have to do it herself.

Joe - have been overseas not posting for so long not sure if you know who I am, even, but may have the solution to your problem:

Trade desks with someone you trust with all your stuff. You clean out his or her desk, he / she does same with yours. No emotional baggage is attached to the activity, so it goes fast.
