So Bi-Polar Jr. is in a new drug study. He's still having seizures. Now we have to go to the clinic every two weeks. He is compensated a small amount for each visit. About enough to cover my gas and parking. About 50 miles round trip + parking.

Today they contact me to let me know they need a SS # because they will 1099 him for this pathetic amont of monery for a drug study that isn't helping his seizures and of course the money will be deducted in turn from his SSI check.

God there's no end to anything.I know I sond like a whiner but Jesus how about a f*ckin' break for just even a few days?

Bi Polar Jr
Are they sure he's only bipolar? He could have a secondary disease that makes him this way. The only way to figure it out (unfortunately) is testing. But!!! If he has you and his family behind him, they will miss nothing. You are his advocate in a world were he can't speak. The doctor's and nurses won't listen to him, but if you are consistentley by his side advising what he is going through, they will hear you and eventually find out what's wrong. I wish you and your child the best of luck. The best thing is to be with 'em every step of the way, even though it can be hard at times. You can handle it! And let your family help you as well. Don't do it all by yourself.

Seriously bear, that does suck. What a time you're having.

I hope being able to vent here helps, really.

I don't hear whining, I hear a frustrated parent who is pissed at a system that takes more than it gives. I hope the future holds better things and maybe even a little fairness.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound insensitive to your plight, Bear. I don't really get what you're talking about, other than it involves money, money, and more money. And red tape. It all sucks the big one.

I hope Jr. is doing okay. And I think from now on we should all just refer to him as Jr. Just so there's no ... ah... confusion.

You don't get it because something this stupid only happens when you have a medical system as screwed up as the one in the USA. If Bear Jr. lived in Canada he would not be taxed for being a guinea pig. Instead, he could receive experimental treatment at the request of a doctor and not have his disability income depleted in the process.

It's a wonder people go through clinical trials at all, given that nonsense. Hang in there, Steve and Stephen.

hope makes me take him..... and I will never give up hoping for my son to have a normal life.

I know how cheesey that sounds but it's the simple truth.

You could always tell them to stop paying him...he can't afford it.

(The truth will probably confuse 'em.)

I already did that... it was my first reaction... they are required by law to compensate him.

The plan is that a handicapped person has a certain monetary value put on his/her life and the system will see to it that by one method or another that is the value that will be maintained.

Apparently when one is handicapped... they lose the right, privilege, chance, whatever you want to call it... to plan, do extra work or save so that eventually they might not be a scumbag drain on society.

What a f**ked outlook.
