It helps keep him cool in the heat he's got there!
So,
when I go over there, one or the other is generally expecting me, and I'm obnoxious about calling first, which works fine, in winter, and less well re summer phone stuff.
I did go in, as I usually do when expected.
I looked at the computer room, empty.
I stood at the far end of the living room from the rest of the house - seeing the closed bedroom door - and semihollared, just a bit of a pitch over the sound of the tv and Fred.
No, I didn't go near the door.
I left and went to the grocery store, and all of this became relief laughter sometime later. I left not worried at all, more getting that all was well.
Later,
Mame, I'm going to have to kill you. Stay where you are and sit still untill I arrive there with my failed suppli al telefono.
I get Dys' view that I'm not a stranger, but I have my own sense of privacy. If I ever get really worried, I'll break that immediately.
You should have opened the bedroom door, osso, probably catching them
"in flagranti"
That would have been a hard to explain medical condition
---
People usually call if they want to come over (here in the U.S.)
in Germany they just ring your doorbell and step right in
I was primed by a 'friend' who showed up at my door when I first lived alone, late at night, pounding on the door. I never answerd, and she was a nice person with no clue. My outrage at that has lasted many years. No, she wasn't in trouble, just oblivious. Plus, I've lived in iffy neighborhoods, most people in those being ok, but still...
Whatever, I get privacy.

If it's a pre-arranged check-up, or a response to some sort of signal, ok.

I would generally consider friends coming to, or into, the house unexpectedly intruding. They're my friends because they know I don't appreciate the pop-in.
I think you'd check too.
I generally agree with you on this, ehBeth. Rather adamantly.
but -
If you had a friend report on a friend whose phone whose phone died, while they were talking, and stayed dead, the first friend having had a serious stroke in the not so distant past, would you eschew checking it out?
Me, I'd think phone fk up, but I'd still check it out. So it goes.
I posted something about Strangers in the Night, my alltime least favorite song, ever and ever, to Mame, but lost the posts. That was the genesis of the "I'll have to kill you", Mame, thing, from me..
That's sort of along the lines of a "signal" to me, Osso.
~~~
I do have arrangements with a neighbour and a friend about what each of us is to do in certain, very specific, circumstances. They're also "non-pop-in" types, so we talked about it - we feel better for having clarified things among us.
~~~
I've got neighbours on one side who'd be startled (well, are startled) if anyone knocks on the door - people walk in their front and back doors all the time. Not my style. I work a big personal territory. Which isn't necessarily good. Just is.
Me too, for whatever reasons, ehBeth.
We built a wall around our house. It's to keep the rabbits out. I never liked rabbits much at all.

Ha! I hate that song, too, and it pret' near killed me to call it up. I got your meaning, osso
BTW, thanks for checking, osso.
I envy Dys and Diane, having a friend like Osso so near. I have a few friends who I wouldn't mind "popping in," but none of them live in our town.
As we get older, this is likely to become a larger issue.
Bet dys doesn't know dys one, y'all
Incidentally, Thanks Osso
Strangers on the Shore
Here I stand, watching the tide go out
So all alone and blue
Just dreaming dreams of you
I watched your ship as it sailed out to sea
Taking all my dreams
And taking all of me
The sighing of the waves
The wailing of the wind
The tears in my eyes burn
Pleading, "My love, return"
Why, oh, why must I go on like this?
Shall I just be a lonely stranger on the shore?
The sighing of the waves
The wailing of the wind
The tears in my eyes burn
Pleading, "My love, return"
Why, oh, why must I go on like this?
Shall I just be a lonely stranger on the shore?
Don't like Strangers in the Night either. scooby dooby do. YUK!
I'm not feeling so great. Cubs been sick for a few. I thought I was just having trouble catching up on sleep after the ER visit with bear the other night. Now, it's feeling flu-ish even though I keep reminding myself that I never get sick.
Anyways, Eva... Could you and osso and Letty and Dys and Diane and Mame and Beth come by to check on me, please? The doors open.
I'll be right over but don't mind me if I don't knock and bring some chicken soup. Poor girl!
YOO HOO!!! <knocks on door with elbow as she enters> SQUINNEY? ARE YOU HERE? IT'S ME, EVA. DON'T GET UP!
I brought you some mindless entertainment and some good chocolate. I'm leaving them on the kitchen counter for you. I don't wanna get any closer than that.
Call me if you need anything else, y'hear?!
<backs out of door>
Perfect for the flu!
Passes Squinney some nice pillows and a big box of tissues..
