My great-great something or other left France for Canada. My grandma was born in a little town in Alberta, but headed south with her family when she was still little. She did her growing up in The States, eventually forgetting how to speak French altogether. She was American through and through (and a vocal republican, too).
As for me, I consider myself French/Canadian living in a land of freedom fries.
