The Yanks may chat a bit more, since Yanks are more relaxed about their social position, I believe. They don't have to "keep up appearances" (like the BBC comedy), nor have the emotional need to reference relatives that might have known King Arthur (establishes social position). All that concern with the proper image might make one less chatty in such a public forum.
