My real name is Gustavus Ratzenhoferenski but I thought that would be a bit cumbersome to use on a message board and thus shortened it to a much more manageable version and one that would roll off your tongue with ease.

It was easy. I just used the same handle that I have been using for the past 20 years.

My real name is Bi-Polar Baer but when I came here I thought it was too ethnic so I changed it to bear.

This is still true, if slightly edited for grammar and info --

I choose italian words for screen names, passwords, my dog's name, etc.

Picked ossobuco for my abuzz name, and now a2k name, because I like the sounds in it, and secondarily because it reminds me of eating at a small trattoria in Modena, where I ordered the dish. Have been waiting years now to be lit into for promoting eating veal, which was not my intent...but nobody has yelled at me about it. Yet.

Because the italian word 'ossobuco' ends in 'o', I am sometimes assumed to be male, but, I'm not, as becomes obvious if you get familiar with my posts.

The odd person or two has railed at me about the name (no link, the main thread on that was a temp test thread), with sexual implications. Osso waves, saying, get a life.

It's my real name -- "Egroeg" -- spelled backwards.

Osso, I admit when I looked up what your name meant I was a bit grossed out Laughing but, happily, I'm not one to hassle people about much of anything, let alone what food they pick to name themselves after on a message board Smile

I think I've mentioned this before, but anyhoo, mine comes from a book that I liked, "The Wild Road." My favorite character in it was a cat named Cypher, so I thought about using just that, but it sounded too short and like I was calling myself a number or trying to be mysterious or something Laughing so I decided to add the "cat" in there too... later I came to realize that 30% of a2k members have "cat" in their username... *le sigh*

The gross part of the name didn't occur to me (la donna stupida) until some minutes after I'd chosen it, and then I figured, oh, phooey. I suppose there are worse italian nouns I could like the sound of.

Who knew it would be my screen name for years..

I dabble in the buying and selling of antiques and since we have a TV programme called Lovejoy a brilliant antique expert (who is a bit of a rogue when it suits him) based on a book by a gentleman doctor who's pseudonym is Jonathan Gash, I named myself after him

Here's who he really is

Is the programme Lovejoy still being produced? My husband loved that show -- it used to air on TVOntario here in Canada (just a few seasons behind).

I simply chose my current interest -- t'ai chi chuan (but...how to explain the pig...)

Osso:

I love a good ossobucco - some guy tried to make it with lamb once and it was certainly not what I was expecting. I love veal of any shape, size, and flavour, but my favourite dish is Veal Madeira or Marsala. Yum.

My name is from the movie/play "Auntie Mame" because I like who she is.

My boyfriend created my name for me. Apparently it is two of the hole names at Augusta National golf course put together. He's an avid golfer, what can I say Smile
