How Do I Read Manga For The First Time? 5 Rules To Follow

You are not the only person having issues with the first manga you've read. Since, for first-time manga readers, the directions can seem "backward," and it can be difficult to know which way to go the next time or what text bubble appears first. This is the entire guide to reading manga. Learn more!

5 Rules To Remember When You Read Manga Manga for the first time!

1. Read The Manga Right To Left

Japanese Manga is not meant to be read left-to-right manner like American manga. Each page has its own manga artwork, and should all be read in the same manner from right to left. When you desire additional hints on Manga, browse this site.

The sudden change in your reading style may feel strange at first and slow down your reading speed. However, after some Manga readings, you'll discover that it is not different at all.

When your eyes reach the top of the page, you are able to shift them to the right to read on the next page.

2. Start the Manga on the Back Side

Yes, it's completely bizarre again but that's how it works! The manga's "back" is actually the cover.

As opposed to traditional American manga of the American style (where you begin reading the book from the front) Japanese manga follows the opposite pattern again.

Begin reading manga from the back, and then move to the top of the page.

3. Each page should be read vertically , from top to the bottom

As per usual reading, we read everything in a vertical manner; starting from the top and ending at the bottom and it's the same when reading manga.

Whatever the manga is, whether Japanese or English-translated manga you need to move your eyes from the top of the page to the lower part of the page.

4. Read Speech Bubbles In the Same Way

Mangas should be read from top to bottom, as mentioned previously. The same applies to speech bubbles as well as word bubbles.

When reading a dialogue bubble, look at it from the top in a right to left direction. Even if there are multiple dialog bubbles, the exact pattern needs to be followed.

5. Read Panels In Right-To-Left Direction

The rule that applies to right-to-left is applicable to manga panels regardless of whether they are placed horizontally or side-by-side.

Manga that has both interior and outside panels are created to not disrupt the flow of the story , and keep the reader engaged.

Learn these five basic manga reading guidelines and you will master the art of how to read manga!

What are Manga Panels and How to Read Them?

A manga panel is the frame surrounding a specific event in time on an article.

It frames an illustration or drawing, sometimes with speech bubbles to give the art work an evocative voice.

There are many types of manga panels. The mangaka chooses the one that best conveys emotions and feelings at the moment.

These are just a few of the many types of manga panels you'll find in Japanese comics and mangas around the world.

The classic four-panel panel is the most common kind of Manga panel. Mangakas use it to divide pages into equal halves.

It can be done by placing four identical panels on over one another or by splitting the page into equal quadrants.
