There is never going to be anything more powerful than a student accepting responsibility for their lives. This is the main purpose of the prevention programs. Students who are empowered to make better decisions can improve their lives and those of others. With this in mind, here are ten tools individuals can employ to make better choices for themselves.

Don't be afraid to say No.
We fear negative reactions from peers. While you might think that everyone else is doing it, not all are taking this approach. Many people wait and hope for the right person to say no, so they don't have to be on their own. Don't let others make decisions about your future for you. There is no need to justify the reasons you're doing this. Just go away. It's your right. Look at this to find out a full report on teen substance abuse.

Connect with friends.
Pay attention to who you're socializing with. Groups of people who share similar values can make it easier to avoid negative peer pressure. The more people you hang out with that aren't making good choices, the more strong the pull is. To make friends there is no need to be like everyone else.

Keep in touch with your parents and other adults you trust.
Teachers and parents can be great sources of strength and encouragement. No matter what you are experiencing, there will always be someone who is there to help. They can assist you if you are prone to mistakes or help you to move on from poor choices. They'll always be there to assist you regardless of when the other people in your life have gone.

Have fun and do what you enjoy doing.
It is important to find more things to do that aren't based on drugs or alcohol. A lack of activity and a life without purpose are the main reasons that lead young people to try to fill the gap in their lives by alcohol abuse. Do not give up to the things you cherish in order to pursue activities that could cause harm to you. Keep your focus on those things that truly make you who you are.

Be respectful of family rules
Do not let alcohol or drugs hinder your family. As you get older and gain more control over your life, you must remember your identity and what you hold dearly. Your safety is protected by your family's rules and the power to make them your own. Talk to your parents about the challenges you face in life and be sure to do what is appropriate.

Get educated.
There are numerous myths and misconceptions. Do not get your facts from the dumbest person in your peer group who is currently using drugs. Learn the truth about the effects of drugs to get the truth. Use those facts to guide you away from making destructive choices in your daily life.

Be the role model.
Create an example. You are setting a foundation for your own life, but you are helping others understand the other way too. There is no way to be more influential in the lives and relationships of your close friends than witnessing them make the right choices. It can change your life and could transform their lives as well.

Prepare for the future.
Don't let your circumstances get you into a position where there is no escape. Do not let other people take you along if they are driving drunk or violating the law. If you are in trouble, make plans to be able to escape.

Speak Up.
Be accountable for your actions. When you see others putting themselves in a bad position, say something. Tell them that you're sorry to watch them crumble. Do not let them tell you that everything is fine. The truth needs to be acknowledged.

Get assistance.
Get assistance if you know someone who is struggling with addiction issues or alcohol. Do not put off help. Contact us immediately if you're in trouble. There are many people who want to help. It doesn't matter if are on your own.
