Well then, where exactly does one begin????
I was born on the high northern prairie under
the Gemini moon. Aurora's trail streaked
across the heavens to announce my birth. And
the earth brought forth a bounty, nah, a
magnitude of springtide flora and fauna.
Branches bent over heavy with the unprecedented
magnitude, the sheer weight of blossoms.
The eldest of five, I was the tenacious child
who first tested the bubble of old world
memories and new world realities. My Father,
a descendant of royal lineage, of martyrs,
pranksters, educated and the persecuted, lives the life of a gentlemen
farmer, generous landlord and designer of all things practical. He spends his leisure time immersed in
stocks, bonds and newspaper, with grandchildren playing at his drousy feet. My Mother was raised in the shadow of the
Mourne Mountains. Her sly tongue regaled us
nightly, with well-placed 'bon mots' and scenes
of the emerald fields. How she had danced with
the faeries and trembled at the banshee's
wails.
I was reared at the feet of poets, aside the
artisan's easel and within a musician's range,
from whisper to screams. Great thinkers sat
freely, contemplating, shouting and spitting
out ideals, conundrums and answers amid
children's laughter and impertinent demands.
Libations of potent or benign mixture, tasty
morsels of roast beast and succulent sweets in
never ending supply graced our table. My time
was spent idly frolicking with the abominable
snowman, fiercely hunting snark, jousting with
dragonflies, diving for giant clams, capturing
deadly toads and building volcanoes and castles
in the sand. The typical Canadian childhood
really...
My first outwardly creative display came while
atop an unsteady coffee table, centered amid a
patient family. From there, I spent my
formative years on concert stages, under
newspaper bylines and conspiring with the
heavens to give me a sign, a direction, but
alas, none was heard. Garden raids and hall
parties, backseats and moonshine, church on
Sunday and school on Monday, all the while
searching.
The time between then and now?
In the process of raising a new generation of
dreamers, I plied my wares in the hospitality
industry, absorbed the lessons life sent my way
and observed societal inclinations.
I call this city my home, this country, my own.
The sites, the sounds - I know them well.
Images of sunshine fields and the azure skies
that no frame can hold and the frozen blue,
still against a sailor's sky, hold me
breathless. The rising of our voices,
suspended as if in constant worry, the ghostly
shrieks that pierce the night as metal bears
down and slows the westbound train or the loon
as it pines across a lonely lake echo around my
backyard. I've drawn my inspiration from
these surroundings, but curiosity for the
unknown has been my driving force.
I find interest and intrigue in most everything
and something magical in everyday. I long to
travel and feel foreign soil beneath my feet
again, but until that happens, books and the
net will nourish my constant craving for more.
My aim is to capture beauty and splash it
across the screen, to celebrate cleverness and
create visual legends.
I have travelled, listened and learned.
I have strong opinions but you can try to sway
me if you like. I belive the world would be a
better place if we all took time to ask "WHY"
and tried to learn from others. So ask a ques
tion? Then take the answers with a grain of
salt. I love music, laughter, art, politics
and wine..
In no particular order.
Thanks,
Ceili
