Instead of sending an Internet signal through a telephone line, satellite Internet providers broadcast their signal up to a satellite hovering above the earth. The hughesnet then bounces the signal back down to a satellite dish which captures the signal and sends it to a modem. The modem decodes the signal and sends it to a computer.
