A question that has been troubling me lately...

If you died alone in your home and no one found your body until weeks later, how long do you estimate it would take before your pet(s) would start eating your face?

Cleo would start in right away.

Bailey'd wait at least a week.

I estimate that my cat would start eating my face about 10-15 minutes before I died.

it takes less time for cats, i heard somewhere. Dogs - something like 2 days (except for that french lady who just fainted and woke up without face). Cats-dunno. Hours? a day? i'm sure there's data out there somewhere.

Leave out kibble as a matter of course.

That way, you may get to die in peace.

Alternatively...practice being dead, and scare the hell out of the cat as soon as it ttakes the first nibble....

Have you considered professional help, Joe?

Growing up we had a cat lady who lived a couple of blocks over. When she died no one noticed for about two weeks. The police were finally called and went into the house. They found her lying in bed surrounded by her cats. Not one nibble on her, they just were resting up against the body. The police said the cats looked fine and probably had plenty of mice to eat.

Geez Louise...maybe we should get these two together. They've both been alone too long. Neither one of them gets it. Laughing

On second thought, maybe we oughta find somebody nicer for Joe. Here he is obsessing about dying alone and not being found for weeks, and I'm suggesting we send the bunny over there. Not very comforting, is it? Sorry, Joe. Embarrassed

It's no use. The cat just falls asleep on the therapist's couch.

Oh wait, you meant for me?

Stuff happens.

Eyes Pacco...

Guy sticks by the door until I come back, eyes right at mine, as I open the door.

I'd bet he'd wait.

Past that, so it goes.
With luck, people will check.

If I WERE alone, and chose to go over to comfort Joe, believe me, he would be very comforted indeed.

Possum'd wait, probably until his next meal time - so, say 6 hours! But he usually starts on the limbs Confused

I'm the abused one in this relationship! Don't blame the victim!

You have three cats, JPB. Surely there's at least one of them who you suspect would be looking to chow down on some face nuggets the moment you keel over.

Sure, joe, sure.

I haven't given a bit of thought to the safety of my face nuggets, but then I'm nice to my kitties and they lurve me. Without me to run interference, the question would be which one of them would the other two consume first? I'm thinking Mongo would be the first to go (poor little thing).

jeez dag, I don't think a cat would start eating your face within HOURS.

That makes it sound like they'd start doing it just BECAUSE you were dead.

Like they got together one day and had a meeting to decide to do that.

They'd at least have to be hungry first.

I think the alternative here is a good test run for you, joe. Set up a video camera first though -- you can show it at movie night.
