The legendary singer Jim Morrison is to deliver a warning from beyond the grave in a new song intended to raise awareness of global warming. A previously unknown poem written and recorded by the former Doors frontman shortly before he died in Paris in 1971 has been put to music by green campaigners.

The song, called Woman in the Window, includes music remixed from, among others, New Order and Perry Farrell, the former singer with Los Angeles band Jane's Addiction. It will be released as a single in April.

Dan Morrell, a music promoter and founder of the Global Cool climate change campaign, claimed Morrison's performance gave an eerie warning of the risks of global warming. The song, which features the line "Man you are evil, get out of my garden", is written from the perspective of an angel sent to Earth to advise the human race on the perils it faces.
Mr Morrell said: "It's very strange to hear this thing recorded more than 30 years ago that seems so relevant to the environmental challenge we face today."

Farrell produced the song after being given the rare recording by the Jim Morrison estate.

The campaigners, including Farrell, a counterculture figurehead whose notorious drug habit once led Rolling Stone magazine to describe him as "the rock star most likely to die in the next year", are to visit Downing Street today to discuss climate change with Tony Blair and business leaders.

Global Cool aims to save a billion tons of carbon emissions a year by telling people about the simple steps they can take to change their behaviour, Mr Morrell said.
