Is this as huge as it seems?

The first Arab appointed to the Isreali Cabinet. In Isreal, 20% of the population is Arab and they don't have representation in the government.

Interesting details. An Arab Druze (anyone want to clarify that?) has been in office, but this is the first Arab Muslim to hold a ministerial position. He is the Minister of Science and Technology. Isreali right-wingers are NOT happy.

I seem to recall it as being some kind of offbeat Christian, but too lazy to look it up. Gossip is always more fun.

I looked it up and started a thread: http://www.able2know.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=90712&highlight=

Basically, they are a sect which originates from muslim, christian, and Jewish faiths. They were open for a genration and then allowed no converts. All the Druze on earth now are descendent from the original group.

They consider themselves Muslim, but other Muslims don't.
