would you say a glass of water is half full or half empty?...i have come up with...if your filling it, its half full, and if your drinking it its half empty...but then if i think about it more, I can see that it can also be the otherway around...? what would you say?

btw, saw a joke somewehre
a pessimist will see it as half empty, an optimist will see it as half full, and an engineer will see it has built twice the size it needs to be Very Happy

I'd say it's half and half.

WHAT IS IT?

A philosopher might ponder it, for the question *is* the thing.
While an artist would take a photo, as the light hits it just so.
A musician can rub on the rim, to make the glass ring and sing.
And a drummer could play many tunes, with a fork's glancing blow.

A waiter might look for a tip left beside, while
a biologist sees cycles of water on Earth.
Arguing couples may see a good weapon to fly,
as the bus-boy just grumbles no mirth.

To a fish it might be shelter from the floor,
while to a moth it's sheer suicide.
But me? I drink the water and ask for more,
because life is too short to be dry.

Ask me again without any fear,
don't fret or head for the door,
but then if you please, next time use beer.
That's what glasses are for!

Actually for me it depends on whether the glass contains whiskey or not....

I ask myself how long the water has been sitting out in my dust-ridden house.

a human being will take the water in the glass, and share it with those in the world to whom a half glass of any kind is a miracle.

no, a human being would take it and keep it for himself, whether half full or half empty - namby pamby idealistic views on the beauty of human nature are just plain wrong....

...in my opinion by the way, the glass is either completely full or completely empty, depending on what was in it in the first place...

I see it as a glass with some water in it (therefore, half-full), but my favorite answer is "the glass is too big."

It's always half full, accentuate the positive. Half empty is for Luddites

Half full, but this is no proclamation of a positive attitude. Nay.
The glass was designed to hold liquid, but spends most of the time empty, awaiting use.

When it is used, I look at the spectacle of liquid having been added, and focus on the amount added, not the amount missing.

I prefer the spectacle of orange juice smoothies.

Of course, if it is half-full, it must be half something else, too, right? And that other half is empty. The correct answer is that the glass is half-full and half-empty (if we accept that air=empty space).

It if half-full of air.
The remaining portion is empty of air, having already been consumed by water.

Hmmm, Trix...;
I was just waxing optomistic!
Maybe the glass isn't half full, at all; it is quite full.
But it's half water, and half hemlock!

Half full if you are in the process of filling, half empty if you are emptying the glass. Full if it is the required amount. Smile
