Cat on a Cold Asphalt Roof

Some idiot has this thing for throwing cats on top of the buildings, this week. I took one down, Friday, and there was another up there today. I was told that as many as three were up there at one time on Sunday. I climbed the two story building four times today in futile efforts to rescue it, but it runs from me. It can leap down the four feet to the next roof and leap up to the high one on the other side before I can approach the first drop off. The fire department was no help; somebody pilfered my have-a heart trap. Well, perhaps I will think up a new strategy by morning.

an opencan of tuna.

The odor, if the cat is hungry enough, will bring them to you.

YOU just be careful. Wink

The first time I approached the cat, it allowed me to pet it. But, when I moved to pick it up, it clawed its way free. Since then, it stays at the opposite end if I go up. It may accept a meal, but it will not be carried down, willingly.

I should amend the title; roofing shingles are more fibreglass than anything else, these days.

While anybody could have an accident, I have been using ladders safely from early childhood. I always double check the ladder footing and other factors before actually going up it.

Can you rig up some kind of cat escape route. Some branches or 2x4's. Cats don't need much, and I've seen mine jump often enough from about 8' above ground and land safely. That's if they think no one is watching them. If there's someone around, they just get stupid.

In the meantime, can I humbly suggest some water and some shelter. Food they can live without for some time, but dehydration may be a problem.

Pity the weather is chilly. Otherwise you could have a very pleasant afternoon with a can of tuna and a cat carrier and a good book.

I got smarter this AM. Found a two foot wide piece of plywood and made a walkway to the big tree. The tree was four feet away from the roof. I hid and watched it come safely down. The ungrateful bugger still runs from me, after all the effort, but, that makes it smarter than some animals, I figure.

My word, edgar. When I was a wee thing, I could climb a tree better than a cat. Glad things worked out, however.

Laughing at djj's mixing Tennessee Ernie with Tennessee Williams.

And some smart women in Toronto! (OK, that one was a bit more obvious.)

Great idea, Tico, and fabulous execution, edgar.

Hopefully the cat-tosser will quit, too. (What is that about?)

how did the unescorted ones get down?

how high up is it that they can be thrown up there?

I'm more worried about how they got/get there than how to get them down.

Does someone need to be de-wiseacred?
