I think that's the largest beetle on the planet. About that bbq...I wasn't thinking about food when our tour director in Costa Rica showed it to us.

Unfortunately, I can't see the photo clearly. Is it a rhinoceros beetle? Dem guys is huge--the biggest, in fact. I'm with you C.I. Not sure I'd look at something like that and think barbeque.

Maybe hors d'oevres with a nice dipping sauce.

Roberta!
What timing!
I just tried to access this link from my email updates & got the "this topic does not exist, or has been moved to another area" message!
I thought perhaps someone might have posted some rude or very provocative animal pics!
But here you are!

I love that springbok! So graceful!

Moved? Where would we go?

Glad you got in.

What the sprinkbok is doing is called "pronking." I personally don't pronk, but it looks like fun.

Pronk is also the nickname of Cleveland Indians Designated Hitter Travis Hafner.

Okay, here's a real animal (can't speak for Travis's tendencies):

The Pocatello Zoo did not identify this species, but I'm guessing it's an Arctic Fox. Named Lemon. Smile http://www.pocatellozoo.org/images/beautiful-Lemon.jpg

Thanks to osso for posting a picture of a conure. She wasn't sure which type our Fred is, so she didn't post a pic of his species. Here is one very much like Fred--a Dusky Conure.

http://www.geocities.com/conures123/Java-_Dusky-Headed_Conure.jpg

They are little clowns who screech like mad when they are unhappy. Mostly, he is very loving and loves to tease. Fred used to hide Dys' glasses and keys. He also loves to empty out things, such as change jars, ice out of glasses, etc. He gets very indignant if you try to replace the things he so carefully dropped on the floor.

Good grief, C.I., you are one well-traveled guy. Thanks for the glorious bird pix. I love dem boids.

Hiya Diane, Thanks for Fred's photo (I assume that's Fred.) Never knew there was a dusky conure. Thanks for the info. Say Hi Fred to Fred for me.

Following is the kind of pet birds I used to have (parakeets or budgies). Over the years I had Billie Boy (a goil), Goldie (a boy), Bambi (a goil), Melvyn (started out a boy and had some hormonal problems, was becoming a goil when he died), Snow (an albino, female), and Loco (another goil). It's impossible to tell the sex of a parakeet (within internal examination) until they mature. Then you can tell from the color of the nose (blue for boys; brown for girls). Unfortunately, by that time the bird has a name. In the case of the birds I had, we guessed wrong more often than not.

Parakeets:

This one is the coloring that Melvyn had.

This was the coloring of Billie and Bambi. Note that the bird in this picture is a male (blue nose).

BIG SIGH. C.I. I went to the link and was enjoying the photos (especially the one of the sculpure) when I was unceremoniously tossed out of a2k yet again. I later got back in and came here to report and to post a few new photos. Thought I had, but neither the response nor the phots made it in. I'll return to the link, and I hope I'll be able to see all the photos.

As for posting here, I'm gonna try again.

rosborne, That's a great photo of the bald eagle. Where did you take that picture, and what kind of camera do you have?

I wish I could take pictures like that, but I'm more likely to take a picture of my thumb.

That image came from the web somewhere. The bottom left corner seems to have a name and some info.
