Having little to do on this sat night I was reading the Code of Hammurabi and came across this law. It's quite an interesting idea for functional justice.
If a man breaks down a wall of a house in an attempt to rob it (quite literally "breaking into") and is caught, his punishment will be to become sealed up inside the wall as a patch.
But will it play in Peoria?

I think the failed burglar was also supposed to be An Example for the living and a guard against any evil spirits who might trouble the householder.
Okay for day one, but when that patch ripens, it is going to leak.

Perhaps in a desert climate the miscreant was allowed to mummify before being interred?
