She was known as the Jezebel of Jazz because of her drug-laced, liquor-soaked lifestyle. But, oh, what a voice, what a delivery!!! Anita O'Day lost her singing voice 10 years ago after a liquor-induced tumble down her front stairway, a broken arm and a convalescent time in a California hospital. But she came back with a new album just a couple of years ago. having (apparently) finally gotten clean and sober. This, in her eighties!
Ms. O'Day died in her sleep Thursday morning while convalescing from a bout with pneumonia.
