In order
to be
at the restaurant
on time
I have invoked
a time travel mojo
on this taxicab
...
It's working

working

changing
red lights to green lights
removing
tottering doddering
pottering
pedestrians
from the corners
from the avenues
from the earth

rolling back
minutes
as the miles and the meter
roll up

if
now

right now

I am only ten minutes late
I am on time

in New York City
ten minutes
is only
ten minutes

twenty minutes
is
late

unless
I call the table
to say
I am in a taxi

a taxi

a well known
time machine

Betsy: You know what you remind me of?
Travis Bickle: What?
Betsy: That song by Kris Kristofferson.
Travis Bickle: Who's that?
Betsy: A songwriter. 'He's a prophet... he's a prophet and a pusher, partly truth, partly fiction. A walking contradiction.'
Travis Bickle: [uneasily] You sayin' that about me?
Betsy: Who else would I be talkin' about?
Travis Bickle: I'm no pusher. I never have pushed.
Betsy: No, no. Just the part about the contradictions. You are that.

Joe, Welcome back. Is that an urn I see before me? Your writing is just odd enough to be captivating, buddy.
