From Rae, recentlly, take a look at these in this part of the site:

http://www.able2know.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=8193&highlight=#8193

Rae's quotes on "art"

I've posted the URL two ways to show that you CAN link to other forum topics thru a different one.

I like the Art quote Joanne has used with her signature, by Thomas Merton:

¤ø,¸_¸,ø¤°`°¤ø,¸_¸,ø¤°°¤ø,¸_¸,ø¤°`°¤ø,¸_¸,ø¤°°¤
Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.

Thomas Merton, 'No Man Is an Island'

I love the Delacroix quote, Joanne, that's my point of view. Of course, one person's eye feast is another's piece of grit in the eye...

True enough osso, by the way shepaints, J.L.Nobody, and firenze are here too. So we will be able to continue just like in Abuzz, cool isn't it. And I am told famerman will be here soon.

on recruiting Farmerman
Joanne, I've been trying to inform Farmerman of able2know, but I can't get him to call my secondary hotline email address. Could somebody else also leave a message for him on abuzz (without mentioning able2know) to call you up so that you can tell him about this great venue. It would be wonderful when 400 andn Kayla come around (I've notified them) . He hasn't responded. And I can't find Colorific and Wagman. They would be great additions I think, serious, talented, and civil.

I will send an e-mail to Jespah, she maintained the e-mail address list and was involved in the Abuzz news letters, she may have their e-mail addresses. I will also try shepaints as you know whe was collecting e-mails of all of those in the art circle in case of a pemanant Abuzz out. I really miss all of them and I have been copy and pasting lots of the old art threads for reference.

And I will post in Abuzz my alternate e-mail for farmerman, 400 and Kayla.

"I have seen, and heard, much of Cockney impudence before
now; but never expected to hear a coxcomb ask two hundred
guineas for flinging a pot of paint in the public's face."

(John Ruskin commenting on Whistler's "Nocturne in Black and Gold" 18 June , 1877)

(John Ruskin to Whistler.....) "For two days' labour, you ask two hundred guineas?"

(Whistler to John Ruskin...)

"No, I ask it for the knowledge of a lifetime."

I want to make high art that is funny, outrageous and also reveals the human condition, which is not always high.

It would be nice to keep this thread pulsing, have it grow to a nice long thread. I don't have time now to ferret out favorites and post here, but I will post when I run across quotes, especially if others do too.

Thanks ossobuco for noticing this thread! Morganwood had a great quote about beauty and light. Now I have to go looking for it "in the other computer", since I online using my son's and mine is just hooked up for basic documents and games...

in the meantime,

does anyone get disgusted with the attitude: "I know art when I see it!"

What was T.H. Benton's problem. Didn't have anything IN his head? At least this is what a surrealist would ask.
