@Letty,
I had this not very long ago and now just got it again! I went to ER the first time I had it after a few days bc I knew this is really normal! Luckily the doc I had has had the same problem herself!!! She didn't even look in my ears! She said we will sometimes get little crystals/stones that break off of the hairs etc inside our ears and this will cause the dizziness while laying down! One of my first experiences wasn't really dizziness more off balance, when I rolled over I swore the bed was vertical and I was rolling off of it onto the floor, scared the *&$# out of me! So what this Dr did was some odd maneuvers right in ER! I just can't remember them exactly but I am going to try it again today to hopefully stop mine from getting bad again! Turn your head to the right or left then lay down really fast, keep your head turned to the side for about 30 - 1 min, then sit up really fast, then do the same to the other side. One side or an other you will feel more dizzy when you sit up really fast, you may already know this from which side you feel dizzy when turning in your sleep! Anyway do that a few times on the worst side, this should loosen the crystal and stop the dizziness! She said our inner ear has very looped canals so you have to work the crystal out of the loop!

@Dadsrunt,
It all started like someone had turned on a light switch.I woke up the 31 Dec 12 morning feeling tired and otherwise that evening i had been skypeing on the computer for 3hrs when the dizziness started it was fast and i did not know what it was i felt like i was going into a mild shock pale and starting to sweat,by the time i got to our hospital about 20 min drive i was sick as a dog throwing up it went on for 2days the third day after being on a drip i was able to hold fluids. The doctors dignosed it as viral labrynthitis i remained dizzy for about a week turning only on my sides for normality, after a week the dizzyness
changed from having bad balance to remarkable improvement after doing eye exercises swaying head left to right and focusing on a x.Then i felt like i had a head full of lead when walking and like walking on a trampoline along with head pressure, no pain but space like every head turn or movement created this feeling in the first week i could sleep in most positions and travelled as passanger in a car was not too bad except for trying to focus on other moving cars. At that stage i could ease the seat back if it got too much and that was ok.Now its exactly how you describe it BPPV i am now in my fourth week i have had only one eply session, but still the same i cant put my head back and look at the ceiling i tried the brandt-daroff exercise i went down on my left being the affected side looked up at the ceiling for 3 seconds and then it felt like someone had swung me around by my feet at a45 degree angle at a hell speed, to scared to try that again,How long do you think this will go on for? i feel like i am in a different world.

I have had a history of ear problems and had it them checked and they found that I was fine. I wake up feeling like my body is awake but my brain isn't. Sometimes, I take a nap it may go away. This happens throughout the day. Recently, I have experienced extreme dizziness while I'm dreaming and can't stand or keep my balance in my dream. When I wake up, I have that same feeling of body awake, brain asleep. I have no idea what it is and since I've had my ENT extensively looked over, I can't say that's what it is in my case. I have peripheral neuropathy and symptoms of Lupus. I am also 65 and know that the liquids in your ear change over time. I am taking this to my neurologist and see what their take is on it. Good luck.

I have been having this problem for the last 10 plus years. not all the time but I wake up feeling sick and dizzy then have to go to the bathroom where I am in pain from feeling severely constipated. i end up laying down on the bathroom floor because the cold tile helps me for some strange reason. I feel like I am on the verge of passing out. Sweating, thristy, just a mixture of stuff. Sorry for going into detail but eventually feel better when all of the sudden I have diaherra. It doesnt happen all the time and I am pretty careful what I eat. I tried to talk to a few doctors but they just treated me like it was imagination. I am t hinking about having a MRI. doesnt happen all the time but enough where it is now making me worry.

You can have an MRI but i have gone that way and come up with more confusion, I have been suffering with similar problems for last 5 years and i have had all the tests possible and doctors just made me go through circles. Ultimately i have come to this conclusion that it is a mixture of some balance condition and stress because of that. I remember doctors asking me if i am stressed and i replied to them that wouldn't u be stressed if u get up dizzy in morning. Anyway try to divert your attention when this happens, I know it is easy to say and very difficult to do. Best of luck, and i know what u r going through.

I've had exactly the same dizziness spells on and off for many years, usually when I turn over in bed or if I reach for something off a top shelf. It's something to do with the balance mechanism of the inner ear.
The room just spins and wobbles a bit for about a minute, it's not pleasant but at least it doesn't make me throw up, and is not serious enough to make me want to see the doctor. I just have to turn over more carefully in bed so's not to trigger a spell, and not crank my head at big angles during the day.
After a few days the spells clear up on their own, then another series of spells happens a few months later but I can live with it.

@maxpower hd,
Are you on any medicine? Because I'm 16 years old and I am on Zoloft for anxiety and this has cause me to have exactly the same thing. I wake up screaming because I am so dizzy. Worst thing ever. I'm exhausted all the time but I don't want to fall asleep because I'm afraid of waking up!

Well stop taking that Zoloft stuff and chill..Smile
PS- i remember the worst dizzy spell I ever had was when I'd just eaten 6 packets of Quavers potato chips one after the other, my head was spinning like crazy and I fell on the floor and started to sweat, but luckily it ended after a couple of minutes. I've never touched Quavers since, there must have been something in them, you never know what muck they put in food nowadays.

Another time i had some dizzy spells which were triggered because I only had a small pillow and I think my head must have flopped about when I turned over, so ever since I've used a couple of thick pillows to support my head better

@maxpower hd,
I am 56, male, have had this happen to me for over 20 years now. several times a year. I have had things checked out, there isn't anything they can find. it does seem to be linked to my allergies, which came on me suddenly in my 20s. I eat or encounter something that I am allergic to, my sinuses fill up and my head gets foggy; I get dizzy while sleeping and I have ot wake up to make it stop. taking a decongestant seems to help, the problem is that I am allergic to tons of stuff and it sometimes catches me by surprise. happens maybe 5 times a year.

@bgmike666,
I often wonder if all the mobile phone/cellphones and aerial masts around nowadays have something to do with triggering dizziness or even epilepsy.
