I'm about to marinate some chicken thighs for a jamaican curried chicken -
this won't be cooked until tomorrow, but I'm hungry already. Um, I'll vary some of the ingredients.. not too much though.

The photo doesn't look all that inviting to me, but the ingredients and the recipe sound delicious, in my opinion. We'll see.

@farmerman,
Asparagus makes your piss smell bad? Apparently it's genetic, it doesn't make my piss smell any different.

@izzythepush,
then I suggest its your urogenital tract that needs a good look see. The natural ingredients in asparagus contain several compounds that the body reduces to H2S and this is excreted.
Maybe some things like beer will dilute the mercaptans.

I wouldnt worry about it though.

@izzythepush,
I just looked it up on the med line:

It appears that only 25 to 50% of the population has the gene that enables you to smell the compound.(It means we qll excrete the smelly compounds and only a small number can whiff it)>
The English apparently had a mens club that, in the 1800's issued a club remonstrance that said
"During asparagus season, the gentlemen will please refrain from relieving themselves in the umbrella stands"

@farmerman,
One day long ago I was in one of my lab classes (anatomy) and the whole class rushed out the door. I didn't know what was going on (poor sense of smell) but followed them out - turns out it was 2 mercapto ethanol, probably a broken bottle..

last night - bacon cheeseburger pizza
I was amazed how good the dabs of dill relish were
I may go all the way to dill pickle slices the next time I do this
I'll also add some raw onion rings
In any case, the damn thing was damned excellent.

This afternoon I was ravenous when I got back from the pool so I had an everything bagel with some of the maple candied smoked salmon along with a mug of cocoa that I'd swirled some hazelnut butter into. Interesting things I find in the cupboards here.

Currently vacationing in Capetown, SA I had grilled Kingklip (fish) wrapped in bacon. Pretty damned tasty.

...and for those who can get this fish (called Kingclip in USA, Ling/Kingclip in NZ, and Kingklip in SA), here's a recipe:

Butter or olive oil
Season the Kingklip with lemon juice, salt and freshly ground white pepper.
Pan fry very briefly on both sides in butter or olive oil in a preheated pan.
Place into a preheated 220° C oven for about 4 minutes, then serve immediately with boiled baby potatoes.

@farmerman,
Hiya, FM,

you had the fish which way...with wrapped bacon...(or the recipe?)

Time of my life. Visiting with g/f relatives for a reunion of cousins and her aunt's 90th. I'm taking lots of pics (natch). 2 more weeks in Capetown, followed by 1.5 weeks in Kruger national park then up by Zambian border to Victoria Falls.

then to new home in Sarasota...MARCH 3RD.

Never had to edit so many pics. I'm getting ruthless...err...Russless.. sumpin' like that.

@Ragman,
the recipe with the lemon'oil grilling, (xcept we alwys used a sweet sherry to help out. BACON can nver hurt nothin. It improves the flqvor of anything else. So bacon is something I never thought of with bony fish because, like Garlic, it overtops the fish's own flavor with a great bacony presence.

The lemon and oil grill doesnt hide the fish flavor

@farmerman,
years ago, I was working in Mozambique to do a recon valuation for the protection of minerals from outside ovrdevelopment, we came sputh an visited the Namibia Limpopo Nat Park and its ner (about 300 mi from Kruger. It was fuckin hot and we hd snake problems all over(we were there with govt resource specialists).
Id put that on my bicket list to do again. It was not as "touristy" and was a little dangerous.

SO good luck on(I assume) what will be a safari.
PS I traded in my Canon Rebel nd the 60-D for a D 7 but Im now taking more pix with my phone.
