@ossobuco,
I've only attempted to make them once, and it was an abject failure, but the main difference between shop bought crumpets and pikelets is crumpets have a ring and are twice the thickness of pikelets.

In some parts of the country the words are interchangeable.

@izzythepush,
Yesterday's batch involved some 'crumpets' flipped too soon, thus their becoming refried blobs (I haven't followed up yet on the recipe searching). Hard to keep at right heat, right amount of bubbling, right time for flipping. Add that to using the wait time for picking football players, and you have consternation going on in the kitchen.

@jcboy,
mild hot wings

hmmm

so .... wings

Smile

the pic looks like they're unsauced - are they straight-up fried?

hot wings here look more like

http://www.ibetyouwont.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/flatlinerwingchallenge.jpg

could be because we're so close to Buffalo and we tend toward the Frank's Hot Buffalo wing style of wing

@ehBeth,
They were straight up fried, they put the sauce on the bottom of the take out carton and just placed the wings on top, the kids loved them, I tasted one, a little too fried for my taste, they were pretty big wings, not hot at all though Razz

@izzythepush,
Oy.
Picklets seem to vary, from what I've seen so far.
Crumpets seem to vary, from what I've seen so far.

Here's a simplistic view of pancakes, pikelets, and crumpets -
http://www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-pancakes-and-vs-pikelets-and-vs-crumpets/

Here's a recipe for pikelets - no yeast, but using baking powder, egg, sugar
http://www.foodinaminute.co.nz/Recipes/Pikelets

Here's the recipe I used (in a manner of speaking, sans rings) -
The Foppish Baker/Crumpets
http://foppish-baker.blogspot.com/2005/12/crumpets.html
-- uses yeast, with serious rising time; only pinch of sugar, no eggs

I've used that recipe before, also without rings, and did better with it the first time. I think the football players were in my way in the kitchen. My herd of crumpets do taste good, though.

@jcboy,
So yesterday the Rican made his delicious soft tacos.

Tonight I’m panfrying some steaks with sautéed mushrooms, baked potatoes and fresh green beans.

stopped at a Portuguese deli/coffee shop on my way to No Lights No Lycra (NLNL)

had a wonderful swiss and tomato grilled on a supercrusty portuguese bun

on my way home from NLNL I went into Charlie's corner store for a banana popsicle

pretty much a perfect meal spread over 3 hours

It’s been a long two weeks. With school and day care.

All of us finally got out of the house and had an ice dinner out in Laguna.
Of course the first thing I ordered was a Vodka cranberry.

We all started out with a nice salad and calamari for an appetizer. The kids all ordered one of the chicken dishes, chicken Piccata and chicken Marsala. For some reason the Ricans steak salad picture didn’t come out too well.

By the look on our waiters face this just may have been the first time he’s waited on three kids., anyway all three of them are finally bathed and in their PJ’s ready for bed and in about ten minutes I’ll be right behind them!

brought home a gorgeous rotisserie chicken last night - from the brand where you can find out what farm it came from - antibiotic free/veggie fed chicken

so delicious

I didn't bother with anything else - just had a gorgeous piece of chicken and some juice

__

tonight Set wants to get take-out from The Rib House. Looking forward to it.

@ehBeth,
Rib House take-out. I sat at the counter watching Johnny Chow do his stuff. I had a burger (all the toppings including extra onion) and poutine. Set had an old-skool hot hamburg sandwich. Johnny also made us some bbq pork fried rice. Set will have some for breakfast and it will be the basis of a delicious lunch. I had a spoon of it tonight since I couldn't resist after watching him prepare it. Yum!

Johnny has a crazy little dive bar with really great food. I'm tempted to go back for his quarter chicken dinner - someone at the back of the bar ordered it and the steamed broccoli looked absolutely perfect - bright green and still super crunchy after just a minute being boiled and then being finished off by steaming.

___

Set waited outside with Bella while I sat at the bar, reading the sports section, watching a baseball game on tv, chatting with drunks and praising Johnny's cooking Smile

Set's companions outside regaled him with details of the best drug combos for different effects. Apparently a drunk from the laundromat came out to threaten him along the way as well.

Always fun times inside and outside The Rib House.

@ehBeth,
Left over angle hair pasta with a tomato olive oil mussels sauce. Made with a garlic strain that I am told was first collected 1988 in Georgia (the country), and is cultivated in California.

TASTY!

Last night I made fresh grouper with cheesy scallop potatoes and fresh green beans. The cheesy potatoes were from a box because I didn’t have the time to make my own. The kids don’t mind fish but they usually want tarter sauce to go along with it. I just put some lemon juice on mine.

@jcboy,
I made spaghetti and meatballs. Bloody gorgeous, here's the recipe, don't know where you can get chipolatas in America though.

@izzythepush,
I like the meatball recipe, never tried putting pork sausage in mine, might give it a try sometime Razz

Not sure what to make for Sunday dinner, I'll have to think about it, or we may end up going out tonight.

@jcboy,
It's the first time I've actually made meatballs as opposed to buying them ready made.
