@Rockhead,
What year did Ray do that tune? seems to me we were not allowed to play it at our Catholic high school dance 1961-65. Yes?

@Joe Nation,
First one, then another, out on the porch this morning. Mom is there but totally, except for one backward glance, oblivious.

I thought for a moment Mom was hurt. Turns out she was sunbathing. I've never seen a bird lay out flat like this.

@Joe Nation,
Joe, I haven't looked it up, but do remember a documentary about birds spreading their feathers to dry off. Had it been raining?

Mad at myself for not remembering to check in for nesting time.

Oh yeah, Cormorants are always holding out their wings as if they were on clothesline, but they are wet most of the time. It hadn't rained in the city for a few days, I think she was just sunning herself.

Falcon News from New York City
Hello fellow falcon lovers. As you all know by now we have four new falcons. As of May 12, 2010 they were named and banded.

Brianne " Named for Brianne Goodwin MS, MPH, RN; Brianne is the Director of Clinical Trials at NYU Urology Associates. She was responsible for the successful coordination of medical treatment that William Pupplo, Vice President of Construction at 55 Water Street, recently received at NYU Medical Center and also to acknowledge the nursing profession as a whole who work behind the scene before during and after treatment without any recognition for their efforts.

Ramona " Named for SPC Ramona Chaves, an Army Surgical Technician who came to the West Point Warrior Transition Unit (WTU) in January of this year after being injured during a training exercise. She hails from Florida State and is married to Diogo Chaves. Upon her release from the Army, she plans on returning to Florida where she will enroll in school.

Matthew " Named for CPL Matthew Bradford, USMC of the 2/3 Echo Company who, after his injury in Iraq in January 2007, came home to begin his rehabilitation process. In October of 2009, he successfully completed the Marine Corps Marathon on a hand cycle in less than four hours with the guide and direction from members of his unit. Earlier this year, he officially became the first ever blind, double amputee to re-enlist into the United States Marine Corps. He is considered to be one of the most courageous and honorable men by all those who know him. Today, he continues to serve as a mentor to other USMC service men and woman within the wounded community.

Stephen " Named for CPL Steven R. Koch who joined the Army in February of 2006 in response to the World Trade bombings of 9-11-2001. He was deployed in January 2007 to Afghanistan and served as a member of the 1-508 Platoon of the 82nd Airborne Paratrooper Infantry Regiment (PIR). He was an incredibly courageous man who, through his dedication and perseverance, made it his mission in life to protect our country and those who could not protect themselves. After a year of deployment, sadly, CPL Steven R. Koch was killed in action on March-3rd, 2008 in the Sabari District of Afghanistan.

Mmmm! That was good! After the kids ate, it was Mama's turn. Then she left. This was followed by ledge-sitting and major wing-flapping by the not-so-little-anymore birdies. (Their coloring is getting darker every day.)
