0 Reply report Sat 13 Jun, 2009 03:14 pm Brandon 9000- I dont thinkEP Brown had a chance to read the last post. OR he thinks that Rasmussen Reports is a RIGHT WING organization. If he does,he is very mistaken.

I wonder if Barack Hussein Obama will dare to present a fait accompli to the American public which includes government subsidized medical payment to illegals based on the poll numbers below:

Friday, June 12, 2009 Email to a Friend ShareThisAdvertisement
Eighty percent (80%) of U.S. voters oppose providing government health care coverage for illegal immigrants as part of the health care reform package that is working its way through Congress.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 11% disagree and think coverage for illegals is a good idea.

Most voters also oppose making health insurance mandatory for all Americans.

Still, two-thirds (65%) believe that every single American should have access to quality health care. Twenty-two percent (22%) disagree, and 12% are not sure. These numbers remain largely unchanged since President Obama first proposed such coverage earlier this year.

While most Americans support the idea of providing quality health care coverage for all Americans, they overwhelmingly oppose such a proposal if it also includes coverage for illegal immigrants. Only 20% favor a proposal for universal health care if illegal immigrants are included. Seventy percent (70%) are against such a proposal.

But, as is often the case, there’s a wide division between Mainstream America and the Political Class on this question. The Political Class is evenly divided on the question of a universal health care plan that includes coverage for illegal immigrants. Those with populist or Mainstream views are overwhelmingly opposed.

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that up to 22% of the 46 million people in America without health insurance are illegal immigrants.

Roughly nine-out-of-10 conservatives oppose providing coverage for illegals, even in the context of a plan that provides quality health care for all Americans. Liberals are evenly divided over such coverage if it’s part of a universal plan.

The public gives mixed reviews to the details of a proposed universal health care plan that have emerged so far from congressional Democrats.

A key sticking point is whether the government should create its own insurance plan to compete with private health insurers.

Americans are very closely divided on that idea. It will be interesting to see if those numbers change now that the president has begun championing the idea this week.

Support for health care reform has slipped slightly as more voters think President Obama should work harder on his promise to cut the federal deficit in half in the next four years.

Sixty-six percent (66%) of voters nationwide say it is very important for the government to improve its enforcement of the borders and reduce illegal immigration, but just 32% of America’s Political Class agrees.

A majority of voters also favor strict government sanctions on employers who hire illegal immigrants. Yet despite reports that the president plans to begin a push for immigration reform, voters rank it fifth out of five priorities he has proposed this year.

The best way to maintain the popularity of Obama is to not report what he is actually doing. As long as the main stream press does a very poor job of reporting the details and results of his policies, his poll numbers may stay up. The man, the personality, the cult figure, remains popular, while his policies are not popular at all. As long as they report things like Obama swatting flies and stuff like that, he should be okay.

You are correct,Okie. The main stream media has Obama in its lap.

However, just five short months after his coronation, the public, despite the idiotic fly swatting report, is beginning to lose confidence.

There is nothing, despite media acquiesence to Obama, that will erode the public's confidence as much as the horrendous Unemployment Numbers which are, at this time, close to 10%( really 16% of one uses the U-6 criterion from the BLS).Everyone knows someone who is out of work. The public will blame Obama. The mid term election in November 2010 should be very interesting.

Unemployment will continue to climb, but to what I'm not sure. Are there additional ways for Obama to cook the books of unemployment figures? I am sure he is investigating that as we speak.

Okie- I think that the excellent chart you gave the other day is evidence that it will climb above 10% soon( look for that nunber in the first week of July).

It seems to me that, unless the long arm of Obama is able to effect many covert changes, the BLS, which, I feel has been free of political taint and, especially, the findings of the Congressional Budget Office, which has never been shy about telling the truth about the economy, no matter who was in office, will give us correct answers.

You know, of course, that state organizations are also able to ascertain the Unemployment Rates in their respective states.

Teddy Roosevelt had it right.

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'
Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Advocate, Trying to apply the statement of anyone from an entirely different period in our country's life can have a grain of truth in it, but all one needs to do is look at what transpired since he spoke those words.

The America of today has immigrants from most countries around the world, and not all end up learning English as their primary language even after they swear allegiance to the US. Some cultures continue speaking their native tongue - especially with their children and friends, and many work in businesses that serve their community at-large.

Here in Silicon Valley, there are many from foreign countries, and we have whole strip malls that cater to their culture in addition to the integrated ones.

Many fly the flag of their native country, and many remain proud of their backgrounds. I see nothing wrong with that.

I think it is great that people from all over the world come to the USA. The terrible problem is that many millions come in illegally, jumping ahead of those playing by the rules and waiting in line, and of course ignoring the limit we have relative to immigrants. They don't take the examination, do not get physicals, and take jobs from citizens (or drive wages down). Illegals should be expelled. Amnesty just encourages untold millions more to sneak into the country.

Agree; but until our government gets serious about controlling illegal immigration, those of us left as "legal citizens" do not have the power nor means to do anything.

The law permits any foreign flag to be flown as long as a same-sized American flag is flown alongside it.

I've seen the flag of Mexico flown on its very own quite often.

So has everyone else - but it's illegal all the same. Typical of their attitude, though - as tirelessly displayed here by Brown-Munoz and his cohorts - you break one law being illegally here, why not break all of them!

Illegal to fly a foreign flag without an American flag alongside? I never heard that. Try googling in, for example, Embassy of Croatia Washington DC Photo.
I don't recall how to move it here.

Actually, all embassies all over the world fly their own flag.

But where is the American flag that is supposed to be adjacent? Actually, this myth about it being illegal to fly a foreign flag unless there is an American flag may stem from 11/2006 when Pahrump NV passed a city ordinance to that effect.
The Croatian Embassy has a pretty cool statue in front of it. St Jerome, I think. I could be wrong.

You consistently vote for the politicians that are not serious about controlling illegal immigration, so what do you expect? Wake up.

Illegal immigration in Germany:

Slavery awaits some migrants in Germany
Quote:
Chic folk in Berlin loved the little Ethiopian restaurant, but none knew about the horrifying treatment that turned the cook there into a modern slave. Out front, diners and restaurant reviewers smacked their lips at the authentic Ethiopian cuisine.

Out back, Lakech Denise's working days began at 7 am and finished when the last guest left, often at 1 am. She was also required to work as a house servant for the restaurant owner.

The 45-year-old mother of three was paid 500 euros: not per week, nor per month, just once for the 18 months she worked. Until she went to German
police to report her boss.

A German human rights group quoted her case Tuesday as it campaigned to end this modern form of slavery, which functions because people like Lakech Denise (not her real name) fear expulsion as illegal immigrants.

A court handed her restaurateur boss a six-month suspended prison sentence for labour trafficking. Lakech Denise obtained part of her missing pay, and was given a temporary permit to remain in Berlin.

People working in Germany under duress are employed in the catering trade, as house servants, on building sites and farms, but above all in brothels, where pimps and gangs use violence to prevent any revolt.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates 15,000 people enter Germany annually to work on such terms.

Others have estimated that forced prostitution alone employs anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000 women, mostly imported from eastern Europe. There was a flurry of attention during the football World Cup in 2006.

But no one knows for sure, as most cases are never uncovered. Federal police statistics show 454 successful inquiries last year into forced prostitution and 92 into other forms of forced labour.

The police note, "We assume that victims are generally unwilling to report such crimes."

The campaigners of the German Human Rights Institute are putting out an alert in conjunction with the Berlin foundation that compensates Nazi-era slave-labour victims. The foundation is tasked with ensuring Nazi crimes do not repeat. The campaign is also funded by a federal grant.

Theoretically, victims can sue an exploiter for damages and claim grants from public funds for crime victims.

But practically nobody does, because they are technically illegal immigrants, whose only reward will be to be sent home to a life of poverty. Most hope instead to somehow escape bondage, stay in Germany and obtain a regular job.

Petra Follmar-Otto of the Human Rights Institute said, "If a case comes to trial, the German courts perceive them as little more than witnesses. They are given temporary immigration permits for the duration of the case.
"When it is over, they have to leave Germany."

The rights campaigners are paying lawyers' fees in effort to establishing court precedents for migrants to be rewarded with permanent-residence permits as an incentive to blow the whistle.

Lakech Denise will not benefit, unfortunately. Her temporary permit expires soon and she must return to Ethiopia.

okie, I do not continue to "vote for" candidates based on how they might vote on the immigration issue. You are making things up as you post your nonsensical opinion about how we vote or don't vote on one issue.

You're an idiot!
