I've seen on various sites that Sylvester Stallone is only 5 feet 7 inches tall, if thats true how do they make him look so big?

I was in an elevator with him once and I think he was taller. Not a really tall guy, but I would have thought he was about 5' 10'', maybe he was wearing his elevator shoes.

I'd believe 5' 9''. I'm almost 5' 7'' and he was definitely taller than me.

With elevators, he could look like almost 6' on screen. Leonardo DeCaprio also wears elevators, or that's the rumor.

John Wayne also wore lifts. He was in fact, just 4' 11"

Another fact about Sylvester Stallone: because of all the years of steroid abuse he is no longer able to "get it up" and must rely on a pump.

I find that funny as hell.

Well, gee, why didn't they get him to play Toulouse Latrec instead of Mel Ferrer in "Moulin Rouge?"

For the same reason they didn't get Clark Gable to play Walter Brennan's toothless coot in some westerns?

Well, it was Jose Ferrer, not Mel, but if Walter Brennan had bigger ears, they might have cast him in "Gone With the Wind." Marjorie Main could have been Scarlett. Gives me another idea for a Fractured Flicks thread.

The Duke is usually listed at 6'4..but some say 6'4.5....so those weren't lifts those were stilts.

Edit: Found this on IMDB...

"Increasingly by the early 1960s Wayne used to wear three- or four-inch lifts in his shoes, a practice that mystified friends like Bobby Darin and Robert Mitchum because he stood over 6'4". It was possibly due to his increasing weight, health problems, and age that he wasn't able to loom as tall without lifts."

I saw Sly in a cameo in Taxi 3 yesterday and he did not seem either very tall nor very muscle-packed, but he was the only extra, so far, in the series to exit from the taxi without throwing up after a high-speed transport. Very Happy

Incidentally, the star of the series, Samy Naceri, fell prey to substance abuse and extreme islamist views and has been in and out of prison for acts of public violence since the above mentioned film. He notoriously uttered death threats against Salman Rushdie while on a talk show with him in 2005.
