And speaking of cheap entertainment.... does anyone know if Panzade is still playing music?

Panzade has abandoned music to become the beloved mascot of a professional hockey team. The younger fans really like him.

Didn't say it wouldn't work. I once saw a guy playing on some kind of string "instrument". It had like a 2 X 4 hinged to wash tub, with strings from the top end of the board connected to the tub. The crowd loved it. I was awestruck.

It was plucked, not stroked.

trade name Bush bass. ask paul hogan to play it for you.

@dadpad,
That's the very idea. As I say, the one I saw was based on an inverted, glavanized wash tub, but definately the same instrument. Tea chest probably sounds better. The wash tub was big on enthusiasm, if nothing else.

@roger,
The washtub bass was prevalent in the 1920's jug band music.

@panzade,

Thanks for the confirmation. What I tried to describe did sound kind of improbable.

@CarbonSystem,
Hi, You should here the Mouthbow played by Colin Offord, here's his description: Made with Australian rosewood, structural aluminium, carbon fibre & feathers. Two small drums on the bridge channel the string sounds into a mouth piece. It can be drummed, plucked, bowed & can be used by tongued harmonics and throat resonances.
