Hmm that's funny - I don't have any problem of all imagining some sets of circumstances that could still overturn Obama's apple cart.

Mainly that some combination of state officials, republican "operatives", voter purging and outright suppression of votes by any means could still make this a lot closer on election day than any of us expect from the way everything's trending.

I gotta tell ya, the memory of going to bed thinking Gore won and then waking to find Bush as newly elected POTUS is still too fresh in my consciousness to believe anything until the fat lady sings, takes her bows, hails a cab, goes home, showers and goes to bed. And even then I won't feel secure until 24 hours passes after a positive outcome in this election.

Voter role purging along with legal challenges seem to me to be the factor which might make the majority less than I'm expecting. But the Obama campaign has been quite successful so far in related court decisions and they have thousands of lawyers set up and ready to go.

Yeah -- I hope the weather holds. K turned 18 a few months ago and voted for the first time. She'll be thrilled.

I am starting to get inundated with robo-calls here in Virginia. Several a day in the 1/2 day I am home. All from the right. The latest and most virulent was from a group claiming to address the issue of abortion. It went something like: Do you intend to vote? Do you intend to vote for McCain or Obama? Did you know that Obama etc, etc? Pretty nasty stuff. Now that you know that, will you vote for McCain?

I admit to being conflicted over the issue of abortion. My Catholic upbringing is a factor. But on the other hand...
I suspect that this robo-call message is not going to play well in Virginia.

Virginia, BTW, is now solidly blue on Pollster.com, thanks to Johnboy and TKO.
One more task: get the vote out despite projected long lines.
That, I fear, could be a problem. My legs and my bladder won't allow me to stand in line for hours.

Yeah, rjb, if you are in favor of murdering almost born, essentially full term, children, vote Obama.

Another few of the ifs:

If you want a malcontent for president, vote Obama.
If you don't think Israel has a right to exist, and would just as soon see it bite the dust, vote Obama.
If you don't like the constitution as it is now written, vote Obama.
If you like the idea of a candidate buying an election with unprecedented amounts of contributions from people and places unknown, vote Obama.
If you want a president with extremist friends, vote Obama.
If you think Iran is a tiny country and constitutes no threat, vote Obama.
If you want your basic rights threatened, such as freedom of speech and freedom of the press, or your right to property threatened, vote Obama.
If you want to change the basic way the country is run, such as the free enterprise system, vote Obama.
If you may be a socialist or a Marxist at heart, vote Obama.

Pretty clear choices if you ask me.

rjb... Have you heard anything about fake fliers in VA supposedly from the VA State Board of Elections telling Dems and Ind voters to vote on Nov 5th?

Quote:
Virginia's State Board Of Elections has released a "rumor buster" document telling voters to disregard a flyer claiming that Democrats should vote on November 5th.

"A fake flyer claiming it is from the State Board of Elections has been circulating, stating that Republican Party supporters shall vote on November 4 and Democratic Party supporters shall vote on November 5," the document states. "This information is false."

Election Day, of course, is November 4th for all voters.

Director of Communications Susan S. Pollard told Horserace that the source of the fliers is presently unknown, though the police are looking into it. She said it was distributed in predominantly African American areas, notably "Virginia Beach, Hampton Roads and Norfolk." Below, a copy of the flyer.

Okie. Sir. Don't try to push that crap down my throat. I understand the issues, and I don't need to listen to your bullshit in order to help me make up my mind.

No, JPB, I haven't heard of that gambit this time around. But your report indicates it could be happening in the Tidewater area, a long way from Cville.
If true, I think it would only stiffen the resolve of some folks to endure long waits in line to vote.
