Oh No! my mum feeds the squirrels!

yeah it's real, they are called road runners cause that's what they do. run roads hunting snakes and other critters for lunch, I never seen one flying.

they use that color to attract bug eating creatures.

they flip their head side to side, and frogs, geckos , and other small amphibians think it is a bright bug and get closer to it.

what did they do before built up areas and roads?

My wife had a neighbor, when she still lived with her parents, that would put out bird food for the sole purpose of attracting furry critters. Then he would shoot them. He ate nothing but wild game... good for your cholesterol levels.
