In its original form, and I'm not sure if the govt is still pushing for this, it would be a criminal act to cause offense, even if it was unintentional, and even if what was said was factually correct. All that would matter would be for the religious group to be offended, or claim offense, for a crime to have been committed....max penalty 7 years gaol.

Of course it is an outrageous attempt by govt to win back the muslim vote who deserted en masse at the last election over Iraq.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- The Muslim group that spearheaded criticism of a Danish newspaper for publishing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad said Tuesday it accepted the paper's apology.

The publication of cartoons deemed insulting to Islam's prophet in the Jyllands-Posten sparked widespread anger in the Muslim world, including boycotts of Danish products. The newspaper published an apology late Monday.

Earlier Monday, Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen said his government could not apologize on behalf of a newspaper, but said he personally "never would have depicted Muhammad, Jesus or any other religious character in a way that could offend other people."

[The cartoons which have so outraged the Muslims are offensive only in that they arn't very funny. Danish pastries have gone un eaten (and Danish bacon boycotted altogether) also Burning the Danish Flag, which contains a cross, the symbol of Christianity which the Danish bishops say Goes Too Far].
