To help stem cell research. The pigs supposedly have green fluorescent protein (GFP) in every cell, so their stem cells would glow green. No better way to see where stem cells go once injected in the body than to give them a marker that glows fluorescent.

What I can't understand is what this topic is doing here in S&R and what Islam has to do with it.

What Islam has to do with it is Gunga Din's obsessional hatred of Muslims. What S & R has to do with it is anybody's guess, and i'm not certain even Gunga Din knows the answer to that one.
