That is an interesting article edgar, I will definitely give you that. But let me make myself perfectly clear. I do not:

1) Cut the heads off chickens and saturate myself in their blood; nor do I
2) Perform any human sacrifice (or animal sacrifice for that matter).

But MA, your sig line aggrandizes human sacrifice.

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

That is an interesting perspective Mequite... I never thought about it that way. However, I'm not sure I totally agree with that because while Jesus was human, born of the virgin mary, he was also God incarnate.

The Christian religion IMO has always stressed the human suffering aspect of the crucifixion as in Mel Gibsons movie.

I've been doing some research on the cannibal/religious relationship.

A few months back I posted what I thought was a link between the semitic words cahn (priest) and baal (master, god). Since the priests of baal were entitled to eat the sacrificial offering, I reasoned that might be the derivation of the word cannibal. I was soundly rebuked by many who claimed the word came from the Spanish 'Canibalis'.

Then I wondered where the Spanish word may have originated.

Interesting that the phonetically similar name Cohen in Hebrew means 'priest'.

I stand by my original assertion that the word cannibal derives from the canaanite priest of baal.

Anyone know more? Let me know.

While all these variations provide fun for the whole family, it's really the Incas and Aztecs of South America who elevated human sacrifice into the art form we all know and love today.

Just being persnikety here, but the Aztecs were North American. The Incas were South American.

I only pasted someone else's assertion about south american aztecs. I somehow missed that or would have altered it before posting.
