Help me choose a title

Reply Fri 18 Apr, 2003 01:53 pm
Well, my company decided that I can have any title I want (except for President, the bastid nixed that idea). I guess they feel guilty for paying me a pittance. I know that choosing my salary would be much more fun (when ordering money always ask for "extra large") but I might as well have fun with my title.

Right now I'm using "logistics manager", another relevant title would be "operations manager".

My functions:

import logistics
inventory logistics
shipping logistics
web design and deveopment
tech support

Any ideas?

Hmm, I like it. I'm sure bossman won't. He's already miffed that I put myself at the top spot of the phone directory.

Hmph. Spolisport bossman. They usually are. (I was certainly accused of that often enough.)

In practical terms, what kind of job would you like that you can see this one conceivably leading to? That's the main advantage I see to being able to choose -- having that on your resume and the next employer saying "Oh, you have 2 year's experience as a _____, great, that's just what we're looking for."

Logistics engineer. Most people don't know what either one means - when in doubt, be ambiguous.

Hmm good point sozobe, and roger's suggestion ties right into taht. The reason being taht I want nothing to do with this kind of job in the future and ambiguity would then be welcome.

Thing is, I really wanna tie in the manager part, I don't manage anything but myself but it's just looks so darn good.

Well, the only sensible option is:

Logistic Craven Manager!

And these three words can be used in any order - depending on how you feel on the day Rolling Eyes

Yeah, manager is good.

I don't know sqaut about logistics or what you really do, for that matter, but it seems like the last two things you list are more along the lines fo what you want to do. (?) My aforementioned ignorance makes it hard to make specific suggestions -- "E-commerce Manager?" -- but maybe you can encompass what you really do while emphasizing the web stuff.

Well, Manager doesn't look as good on a resume as Director. I would suggest Director of Logistics.

Or Operations Guru

Or His Holiness

Or Chief Resident of Logistic Surgery

Or Programming Exorcist

Or Right Honorable Logistics Emissary, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary

Oh dear, what an invitation!

But - I shall attempt to be both serious and helpful........in a minute.

Hmmmmmmmmm........God? Is god good for you? Hmmmmm.....a little cold......

His Imperial Majesty, Emperor of Cyberspace and the Boundless Oceans and Widgets?

Actually - it might be helpful if you told us what you DO want to do - so that any suggestions can be slanted that way.

What I want to do is sit around and collect my lottery money but there's that damn "what you want is very different from what you get" rule.

Director anything is out, I just found out that it would make me liable for some things and I don't want to pay for all my crank calls to China.
