I somehow managed to uninstall the device file to run windows along with AOL and McAfee
I was able to restore both McAfee and AOL. However I have no idea how to reinstall the device file.or in fact where to find it. I can still get on to windows by hitting a key when the message comes on to reinstall. In fact after every one of three messages.

Help would be greatly appreciated. Step by step if possible.

Just a guess, but it sounds to me as though it could be a Dial-up Networking issue, given that you apparrently had to reinstall AOL and McAfee. Perhaps this article will be of help:

Microsoft: Err Msg: Cannot Find a Device File That May Be Needed to Run... - there are related links there, too, that could be worth checking out.

Timber
Thanks for asking. But no I have not as yet attempted to do the reinstall. Frankly, I am afraid to screw it up any more than I have already. I probably will hold of until I finish a project I am working on or get some professional help.

It would seem, I think, the missing file is
C:\"1\symantec\symeunt.386
