At work relationships.. how far to take them

Ok this is more of a hypothetical question if anything..

Now I work at a school and many of the students are my age... i.e. many of the boys are my age...

Now lets just say I take a liking in someone... what are the boundaries I face with being an employee of the company?

I don't want to even bother trying anything if it is not allowed... I haven't even spoken to this person and I can easily keep it that way...

but at the same time I see how everyone else acts around students and i believe some employees even go out for drinks with them after work... yada yada...

So like I said I am not in any kind of predicament or anything... just a thought running through my head

In general, the operative rule should be, "You don't sh!t where you eat".

Then again, I married a guy that I met at work! Laughing

I don't know what you do which brings you in contact with students, but in most schools, if a teacher or professor dates a current student, that teacher/professor is opening him/herself up for disciplinary action, which may include firing.

I am the receptionist/admissions coordinator... the only time I see the students is when they come and go through the front door.. or when I am on my lunch break and they are on theirs

Oh, then check the employees' manual. If you're in a position to be able to influence students' schedules, then it's possible it would not be allowed. Most schools are sticklers for that kind of thing because they are well aware of the power position that students in a school are in, even older students.

Ha! Phoenix, I learned that as "Don't get your meat where you get your bread".

And I too married a man I met at work.

Well I am not too sure what the policy is... but I think they say it is a liablity if you go out with students after work, but at the same time,... so employees friends go to school here and they go out after work... so I don't really know.. I will try and find a copy of the handbook though

Having an existing friendship with someone and then simply continuing that friendship is different from (and much less dangerous than) starting a romantic relationship with those same students.

Ha well the people I work with seem to think there is no harm in it..... and then they told the guy I thought he was cute and I guess he turned bright red and couldn't stop smiling...

Interesting... how do I get myself into this stuff :-D

Haven't you ever heard, "don't dip your pen in the company ink?

Who cares? Not like you're a V.P. or anything.
