Metaphor songs

I am a big fan of what i would call metaphor songs, songs that really represent things really accurately.
The top few i can think of is:
Jeff buckley- mojo pin- really represents like staying in bed with someone you love like in the morning or something.
guns n roses- sweet child of mine- really represents how you feel about someone when youlove them
goldfrapp- strict machine, oh la la, white horse, lovely to see you, really represent sex quite well. i think.
vaugn williams- lark accending- really represents sunrise.

can anyone think of anymore?

I'm not sure exactly what you're after but I think Dido's "My Lover's Gone" is a very haunting song of loss. It sounds so lonely and resigned to the lonliness.

Is this the kind of stuff you mean?

I wouldn't consider Sweet Child of Mine a metaphor song. Axel wrote it about his girlfriend. A good example of metaphor is Pink Floyd music.

imnidiot.
Firstly its Axl, not Axel.

Secondly just because my husband wrote it about an ex girlfriend does that make it any less of a metaphor?

I wasn't trying to be trite, but my interpretation of a metaphor is a non human theme representing or relating to life, as in the line "Run rabbit run, dig that hole, forget the sun. When at last the work is done, don't sit down it's time to dig another one, by Floyd. It represents man's pre-occupation with non-essential things in life until he finds out in his old age that those things weren't important after all. I apologize if I insulted you, and for the mispelling of Axl. I wasn't really a fan of Guns 'N Roses music, so I never took notice of the spelling.

Let's continue the metaphor thread. Anyone have any songs in mind. Like Crazy Diamond said you could do a whole thread on Floyd, but there are many other groups using metaphor.

I think she only said that to give you an idea how much she loves Axl Rose. Just a hunch.

"The Trees" by Rush is supposed to be a metaphor for people and their interactions I think...

Lyrics for: The Trees

There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas

The trouble with the maples
(And their quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light

But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made
And the wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade

There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
As the maples scream "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights
"The oaks are just too greedy,
"We will make them give us light!"
Now there's no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And The Trees are all kept equal
By hatchet,
Axe,
And saw....

A metaphor is basically saying something is something else to make something less familiar more familiar by using the familiar image. Such songs use images. When it continues on, it is an extended mataphor:

I am a rock,
I am an island.
I’ve built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
It’s laughter and it’s loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
