@doglover,
The Shining is definately up there -

I am reading the Dome right now. I think many of Stephen Kings books are not so much scary as twisted and odd. Which is why I like them.

@Chai,
Yes read all the Gunslingers - I really liked the Talisman. Kinda of a fantasy sort of book.

@Phoenix32890,
Yes - the Lottery one of my favorite short stories and I am not a short story fan (thus why I like King - his books go on forever).

@tin sword arthur,
Although I thought they did a fab job on Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Shining and Misery. Not as good as the books (rare for a movie any how) - but some of the better ones.

The scariest thing that I have ever read, was not a book but a short story.It was Shirley Jackson's, "The Lottery". I still get the shivers when I think about it.

So I'm on a business trip, staying in a small motel somewhere unurban. What reading material did I bring with me? "The Stranger Beside Me"--a book written by Anne Rule.

True story of Ted Bundy. Scared the hell out of me.

@Roberta,
that sounds like a good one. I've read one or two by Anne Rule. I'll have to get that one when I'm done.
