A friend of mine had a magazine about Abraham Lincoln - I don't know who published it- that had a timeline of Lincoln's life. One of the marks on the timeline was in the 1840's or 1850's after he'd entered politics, and appeared to say that Lincoln was offered the Governorship of Oregon Territory, but turned it down. I didn't see anything else about the incident in the magazine except that one brief timeline notation.

Does anyone know anything about this? Was I seeing things?

It's true. Check out http://www.onthisdayinoregon.com/10_06.html . It seem Lincoln's wife didn't want to live there.
