I have recently accepted a job doing travel nursing. I am getting reimbursement, but is really isn't enough to cover the expense. I am taking my daughter with me. If I can buy plane tickets using flyer miles, it would save me a lot of money, but I have no idea how it works.

If you have a particular airline to use in mind then you can probably visit their website and check out how it operates - but remember it's called a "loyalty programme" for a reason.
