Today, a year ago, in a sad room with her hospital bed, Mom put her old arms up and I held her. 'I am going' she said, 'I want you to know I love you and you cannot go with me.' I cried. Mom repeated this quite a few times for the multiple siblings and the spouses, grandchildren- the HOST of we who love her - yet. This spring, I have held her flowers close to me, drank in their beauty, and filled vases with them. Like her... they fade in their given time, and have to go back to the earth from which they came. But I know we will all live again... come spring.
I stood...
in a lonely room
Of a mother, old and gray--
Her voice so weak she could hardly speak
I brushed a tear away,
She was watching the little snowflakes
Falling on a window pane;
She breathed a sigh
And then replied Ill be gone to be with Jesus come spring
Before the roses bloom, in my garden-
Ill be gathring flowers in a better land.
Before the trees are green
Before the robin sings
Ill be gone to be with Jesus come spring.
Theres a big gate
Standing open
A gen tle voice - -
Calls me home.
Soon Ill be
in Gods coun-try
In a gar-den of my own.
When my troubles are behind me
And my body free from pain
When the sun melts the snow and the warm winds blow
Ill be gone to be with Jesus come spring
Now the roses have bloomed
In her garden
And the warm wind blows across the fields of green.
Shes gone where Angels play
Her loss is heavens gain
But well meet when God counts flowers, come spring
Yes Well meet , when God counts flowers -- come spring.
So lately, been wondering
Who will be there to take my place
When I'm gone you'll need love to light the shadows on your face
If a greater wave shall fall and fall upon us all
Then between the sand and stone could you make it on your own.
CHORUS:
If I could, then I would
I'll go wherever you will go
Way up high or down low, I'll go wherever you will go
And maybe, I'll find out
A way to make it back someday
To watch you, to guide you, through the darkest of your days
If a great wave shall fall and fall upon us all
Well then I hope there's someone out there
who can bring me back to you
CHORUS
If I could, then I would
I'll go wherever you will go
Way up high or down low, I'll go wherever you will go
Runaway with my heart
Runaway with my hope
Runaway with my love
I know now, just quite how
My life and love might still go on
In your heart, in your mind I'll stay with you for all of time
CHORUS
If I could, then I would
I'll go wherever you will go
Way up high or down low, I'll go wherever you will go
If I could turn back time
I'll go wherever you will go
If I could make you mine
I'll go wherever you will go
I'll go wherever you will go
thanks to all of you...
Thank you so much, this thread really encouraged me...
This Masquerade
Are we really happy with this lonely game we play
Looking for words to say
Searching but not finding understanding anyway
We're lost in this masquerade
Both afraid to say we're just too far away
From being close together from the start
We tried to talk it over but the words got in the way
We're lost inside this lonely game we play
Thoughts of leaving disappear everytime I see your eyes
No matter how hard I try
To understand the reason that we carry on this way
We're lost in a masquerade
We could just start over but it's oh so hard to do
When you're lost in a masquerade
(Leon Russell...I just saw him night before last, third time in three years...he didn't do this one though.)
He did this one...I had no idea the Stones were PROFOUND...until I heard Leon do this song:
Wild Horses
Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I cant let you slide through my hands
Wild horses couldnt drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldnt drag me away
I watched you suffer a dull aching pain
Now you decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind
Wild horses couldnt drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldnt drag me away
I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I dont have much time
Faith has been broken, tears must be cried
Lets do some living after we die
Wild horses couldnt drag me away
Wild, wild horses, well ride them some day
Wild horses couldnt drag me away
Wild, wild horses, well ride them some day
Here's a rather corny sentimental poem later put to song - written by Eugene Field after the death of his own child -- an event that in those days was much more common than now. I heard it first at a very young age and it stayed with me.
LITTLE BOY BLUE
THE little toy dog is covered with dust,
But sturdy and staunch he stands;
The little toy soldier is red with rust,
And his musket moulds in his hands.
Time was when the little toy dog was new,
And the soldier was passing fair;
And that was the time when our Little Boy Blue
Kissed them and put them there.
"Now don't you go till I come," he said,
"And don't you make any noise!"
So, toddling off to his trundle bed,
He dreamt of the pretty toys;
And, as he was dreaming, an angel song
Awakened our Little Boy Blue
Oh! the years are many, the years are long,
But the little toy friends are true!
Ay, faithful to Little Boy Blue they stand,
Each in the same old place,
Awaiting the touch of a little hand,
The smile of a little face;
And they wonder, as waiting the long years through
In the dust of that little chair,
What has become of our Little Boy Blue,
Since he kissed them and put them there.
Since You've Asked
Words and Music
By Judy Collins
What I'll give you since you asked
Is all my time together;
Take the rugged sunny days,
The warm and Rocky weather,
Take the roads that I have walked along,
Looking for tomorrows time,
Peace of mind.
As my life spills into yours,
Changing with the hours
Filling up the world with time,
Turning time to flowers,
I can show you all the songs
That I never sang to one man before.
We have seen a million stones lying by the water.
You have climbed the hills with me
To the mountain shelter,
Taken off the days one by one,
Setting them to breathe in the sun.
Take the lilies and the lace
From the days if childhood,
All the willow winding paths
Leading up and outward,
This is what I give,
This is what I ask you for;
Nothing more.
Dear dilvish...welcome and thank you for resurrecting this wonderful thread. It is so bittersweet, for Cavfancier was greatly loved in this forum; bitter because Cav passed away from us and I for one am still disquieted.
For Cav: REM
The walls are built up, stone by stone,
The fields divided one by one
And the train conductor says
"Take a break Driver 8, Driver 8 take a break
We've been on this shift too long"
And the train conductor says
"Take a break Driver 8, Driver 8 take a break
We can reach our destination, but we're still a ways away"
I saw a treehouse on the outskirts of the farm
The power lines have floaters so the airplanes won't get snagged
Bells are ringing through the town again,
Children look up, all they hear is sky-blue, bells ringing
And the train conductor says
"Take a break Driver 8, Driver 8 take a break
We can reach our destination, but we're still a ways away"
But we're still a ways away
Note: I had a little time warp happen here...but I decided to leave the post as is
Motorcycle Drive By
--------------------------
by Third Eye Blind
Summer time and the wind is blowing outside
In lower Chelsea and I don't know
What I'm doing in this city
The sun is always in my eyes
It crashes through the windows
And I'm sleeping on the couch
When I came to visit you
That's when I knew I could never have you
I knew that before you did
Still I'm the one who's stupid
And there's this burning
Like there's always been
I never been so alone
And I've never been so alive
Visions of you on a motorcycle drive by
The cigarette ash flies in your eyes
And you don't mind, you smile
And say the world doesn't fit with you
I don't believe you, you're so serene
Careening through the universe
Your axis on a tilt, you're guiltless and free
I hope you take a piece of me with you
And there's things I'd like to do
That you don't believe in
I would like to build something
But you never see it happen
And there's this burning
Like there's always been
I've never been so alone
And I've, I've never been so alive
And there's this burning
There is this burning
Where's the soul I want to know
New York City is evil
The surface is everything but I could never do that
Someone would see through that
And this is our last time
We'll be friends again
I'll get over you, you'll wonder who I am
And there's this burning
Just like there's always been
I've never been so alone alone
And I've, and I've never been so alive
So alive
I go home to the coast
It starts to rain I paddle out on the water
Alone
Taste the salt and taste the pain
I'm not thinking of you again
Summer dies and swells rise
The sun goes down in my eyes
See this rolling wave
Darkly coming to take me
Home
And I've never been so alone
And I've never been so alive
I was here before life began
In the wind, and on the waves of the seas
Lying on the flowers...dancing through the trees
I Am Music
I am ageless...I am love
And when the first man came
I was there lying in his brain
I gave to him my treasure
I lifted him in pain
I Am Music
I am timeless...I am love
Music is the soul of man
Giving when the words can deceive
Precious as the wind, and rain
Living in his laughter, and his tears
I have led the young men of many years
On to battle fields
Blasting sounds of victory in their ears
Soothing mothers tears
hall of fame characers on this thread...I miss them
well ,when I was 17 I had to translate this poem of Lorca's...it's still exciting even though it's never been made into a song...that I know of
this morning I was thinking about the art of translating.Edith Grossman is considered the the finest traslator of Spanish prose and she has translated Don Quixote, I believe. It seems to me that translating poetry would be alittle trickier. Certainly the passion in Lorca;s poems would be a challenge to reproduce in another language
here'a asong that Cavfancier always liked...nice poetry

Keep Me In Your Heart For A While
Shadows are falling and I'm running out of breath
Keep me in your heart for awhile
If I leave you it doesn't mean I love you any less
Keep me in your heart for awhile
When you get up in the morning and you see that crazy sun
Keep me in your heart for awhile
There's a train leaving nightly called when all is said and done
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Sometimes when you're doing simple things
around the house
Maybe you'll think of me and smile
You know I'm tied to you like the buttons on
your blouse
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Hold me in your thoughts, take me to your dreams
Touch me as I fall into view
When the winter comes keep the fires lit
And I will be right next to you
Engine driver's headed north to Pleasant Stream
Keep me in your heart for awhile
These wheels keep turning but they're running out
of steam
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile
It wont Rain Always Cynthia Clawson
Someone said, that in each life, some rain was bound to fall...
Each one sheds his share of tears; and trouble troubles us all...
But the hurt wont hurt forever. And the tears are sure to dry
And it wont rain always...The clouds will soon be gone...
The Sun that they've been hiding, has been THERE all alo-ong...
And it WONT rain always, God's promises are true.
The sun's gonna shine in His own good time
and He's gonna see you through.....Yeah the Suns gonna shine in Gods own good time AND HE WILL SEE YOU THROUGH.
Jackie, I just reread this thread from start to finish (not for the first time). It has given me more pleasure and thoughtfulness than any other on A2K. Thanks again to you and others, now gone, for giving it to us.
Thank you for such a sincere and kind response.
I dearly LOVED writing with Cavfancier, and my heart is unmended
since he is gone.
There are many lovely folks here, they write so well.
I wish you THE BEST.

This is how the last part of the song goes.......
Now the roses have bloomed
In her garden
And the warm wind blows across the fields of green.
Shes gone where Angels sing
Earths loss is heavens gain
But well meet when God gathers flowers, come spring
Yes Well meet , when God gathers flowers -- come spring.
