We are having an argument about whether the r is sounded or not?

Thanks.

If you want to hear pronounced the French way by a Frenchman - a click here will give you the short sound (with sounded 'r' - it's a Quicktime file, btw!).

Thanks for the help...very interesting. I'm not sure that fully settles the matter with my sister or not, but it might shut her up a bit.

The "r" is pronounced--but without either being a native speaker of French, or having had a hell of a lot of practice, the average English speaker is not going to pronounce it correctly.

Vosges: Vowj (both "s" are not sounded)
Texas: Técsass ("é" is pretty particular... I can't find any equivalent in english...)
