If Jesus is God, how is he called God's only begotten son?

@InfraBlue,
I've already read this entire thread and have found only spurious evidence for the trinity doctrine. You said you were not a trinitarian. Why do you not believe those arguments?

You should re read to observe all the rational arguments against.

@neologist,
That's a good one, "rational" arguments either for or against based on Bible interpretation. Rationalizations, perhaps, but not rational. That there is even disagreement over the issue illustrates the ambiguity and inexactness of what's written in the Bible. That's the rational take on the whole matter.

I don't believe any of the arguments in regard to trinitarianism either way. I'm merely pointing out the fact that trinitarianism is adduced by both biblical and extra-biblical exegesis much like several of your religion's dogmas.

Rationalizations, a subject with which you appear abundantly familiar. That scripture is difficult for some to grasp comes as no surprise, for it evades mensan and moron alike.

It has something to do with inclination, I believe.

Of course. I've been reading yours, among others, for quite a few years now.

@neologist,
The Latin word was chosen to show that the teaching was not meant to be passed off as explicitly in the NT. Jesus is divine BECAUSE He is the Son of God.

I am a daughter of a human and I am also called a human.

Where is the problem ?

@neologist,
Like several big folks on here (the Mark Twain guy) you confuse words and things.

I can call it a Pendule à coucou or a cuckoo clock and the difference?

You say either and I say either,
You say neither and I say neither
Either, either Neither, neither
Let's call the whole thing off.

You like potato and I like potahto
You like tomato and I like tomahto
Potato, potahto, Tomato, tomahto.
Let's call the whole thing off

@CVeigh,
How VERY interesting that you just joined today, yet you behave as if you know all the players!

Even more interesting when you necropost just like someone else. Hmmm, the name's on the tip of my tongue.

And it's fascinating how neither of you are capable of reading the last posted dates on these topics! And even more about how you must be continually bumping up against the flood controls on the forum.

Here's a song! <3

We know Jesus is NOT God because he said so himself often enough, check it..Smile-

Jesus said - "I am going to the Father, for My Father is greater than I" (John 14:28 )
Jesus said:-"Why do you call me good? Only God is good" (Luke 18:19)
Jesus said "Only God knows when Judgement Day will be, I don't know myself" (Mark 13:32)
High Priest asked-"Are you the Son of God?", Jesus replied - "I am" (Mark 14:61)
Jesus said - "I only say what my Father tells me to say" (John 12:49)
Jesus said to Peter:-"My Father has revealed to you that I'm the Son of God" (Matt 16:15)
The angel said- "You [Mary] will give birth to the Son of God" (Luke 1:35)
And even demons knew who he was:- "Jesus Son of God don't torment me" (Mark 5:7-9)
God himself said "This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased, listen to him" (Matt 17:5)

If Jesus is God I'm Mary Poppins..Smile
Jesus made it crystal clear that he WASN'T God, so if anybody doesn't believe him they can argue it out when they meet him-

Jesus said to Peter:-"My Father has revealed to you that I am the Son of God" (Matt 16:15)
A demon said- "Jesus Son of God don't torment me" (Mark 5:7-9)
Jesus said- "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
Jesus said - "I am going to the Father,' for My Father is greater than I" (John 14:28)
“My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done" (Matt 26:42)
Jesus said- "Father into thy hands I commend my spirit" (Luke 23:46)
And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” (Matt 3:17)

@TheCobbler,
So, in Spanish orrep means god?
In French, would it be neihc?

But, I like your grasp of logic, Rex.

If Jesus is God, how is he called God's only begotten son?

Give it a nickname. Give it a parent. Give it a junior, senior, or something like that.
