What's your pick?

Mine: "She-Devil". Oh, nothing better to make you feel confident enough to kick your boss in the crotch!

Le vieux fusil (1975, The Old Gun) with Philippe Noiret (For the, at the time, shocking level of violence)
L'Été Meurtrier (1983, One Deadly Summer) with Isabelle Adjani (For the sheer determination of the avenger and the twist at the end)

Thelma and Louise- There were a couple of spots in the film where I wanted to stand up and cheer!

Hrafninn flýgur (1984, When the Raven Flies), the best viking film around, about a boy who spends his childhood planning revenge for the murder of his parents and who finally meticulously carries out his revenge.

"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

I love "The Princess Bride"!

I suspect that you want something a little darker --

"House of Games" is great.

Darn it, boomerang, I was going to say "The Princess Bride."

OK, in the same vein, I'll offer "Animal House:
Otter: Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons -- that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part. Bluto: We're just the guys to do it. D-Day: Let's do it. Bluto: LET'S DO IT!
Was revenge ever extracted in such a satisfying manner as in the finale of this film?

Oh yes, the book is truly wonderful but as movies go it is really hard to beat "The Princess Bride".

I have never thought of "Animal House" as a revenge movie but it so is.

Another really good revenge movie is "The Shawshank Redemption".

Of course, Kill Bill is about as ultimate as revenge can be.

But I also love love love Princess Bride and The Shawshank Redemption.

I thought it was funny the way Goldman prentended to be merely abridging a previous historical romance to get rid of the longwinded parts. You believe him at first, and at some point you realize that he's pulling your leg. Some of his narrations, within the novel, of his experiences while writing it are hysterical.

There are so many films about revenge, it is a very basic motive.

What about:
Once upon a Time in the West
or
First Blood
or
any of the films based on the story of the 47 samurai

boomerang picked mine -- "House of Games." Maybe the antithesis of the revenge movie is "Ben Hur."
