Our March chat room subject is a group of painters known as the Bay Area Figurative School. The chats run from 8pm to 10 pm, EST each Sunday in March; the first Sunday is March 2nd.

Here are some links on their work -

painters are seen on this site....

Feel free to add comments here in this regular thread too, as some people can't get to the chats and some want their words to last longer than they do on chat so more people can see them.

Me too. I think there were a few more painters included in the group. I don't see James Weeks mentioned and I think he was. Couldn't find much on internet about him. Also didn't find much in the way of images by Nathan Oliviera. May hunt again tomorrow.

I am having trouble getting into the chat room; there is some a2k function problem. If worse comes to worse, we'll talk next week...but I am going to keep trying to get into the chat room every fifteen minutes or so.

I've been down. Finally hired a "computer nerd" to get my computer started up again. Frankly (and without any feelings of guilt), I'm glad you guys couldn't get into the chat room last Sunday, if that means that we'll retain the topic for this coming Sunday. The Bay Area abstract expressionists (both the abstract and figurative modes) are among my favorites. So, I hope we'll stick to the topic. Can't tell you how much I missed the discussions. There's a degree of healthy addiction here. I'm addicted to having to think, debate, and otherwise commune with intelligent and civilized people.

Accccccck, jl, glad to see you, and I'm sure I speak for more than myself.

I just got back from Sacramento, another story. But this subject could go on. Myself, I sort of always liked Bishof but now.... more info, I like him more. Well, glancingly. But this kind of work is vastly drenchingly exhaustingly attractive to me....I have sort of followed Park but not so many others and there is much to learn.......

What about changing ideological trends in art during times of depression and war as a topic?

Good idea colorific since this war is doom a gloom it is going to cause a lot of new trends I am sure. And perhaps the destruction of untold art treasures may be caused by bombing and battles in this historic area. Some times it is hard to believe what I hear or read in the news when the mention the Tigress and Euphrates rivers in the same sentence with death and GPS positioning.

We could blend in or use as a starting point Rober Arneson's sculpture since much of it is anti war, anti Vietnam war.

Global Death and Destruction, by Robert Arneson, arouses a pathos that is immediate and chilling.
